Music Files ... expanded advice

Greetings:

I am away from my PC with the game on it so I cannot actually see the root directory or files in it.

However I was thinking that I might like to change the background music.

Perhaps a little Benny Goodman in the back ground ... Sing sing sing.. or In the mood...

I don't hate the core game music but it is a little.....well.... [>:]

Expanded questions.

1) Mp3 format ? Size limitations ?

2) What are the particular files named if it wanted to insert my own file name to replace it.. i.e. cut and paste replace. That seems to be inferred by this thread...

3) Any pitfalls? I do not for example want to overwrite that wonderful sound bite from Tokyo Rose announcing that the Imperial Japanese Navy has sunk another 3 aircraft carriers near the port of Rabul as well as 8 battleships 6 cruisers and other smaller vessels ... [:D] That particular clip just lifts my heart

4) Additionally any suggestions ? Anyone have a particular song they recommend ...

<please no recommendations for DefLeopard..I would be most receptive to era/time period recommendations>

In your sound folder the files you want to replace are these.
Mp3’s with the file name changed work.Keep the size reasonable.
Backup the original files first.

Note that I have deleted 1027.SFX . It is the one that plays for your start screens.

Sing Sing Sing with vocals by the Andrews Sisters ! That might be one of the rarest recordings of all time. Most people get the Benny Goodman 37 concert instrumental.

Its funny as heck albeit I dont think I could actually concentrate on the game with Bob Hope in the background... I would be sitting on the ground in front of the USO stage with the rest of the guys LMAO

What do I need to rename the files to. I've tried putting the relevant numbers and .SFX after backing up my originals but it won't work. Also tried renaming the downloaded files to the number with .MP3 but still won't work

Is Windows Media Player your designated app for those file types? You can check in Control Panel.

I have Win 10 home. Looked in Control Panel and it looks like Win Media Player.

EDIT : Checked the files individually and changed them to WMP as default but still no music. What do I do ?

You need to rename them exactly as the are in the game.

Example:
Take a file named Moon over Burma.mp3 and rename it to one of the game files like 1028.SFX.

That's what I did. Got the files from the 6th Corps website listed above, renamed the files to 1025.SFX etc but for some reason the music won't play

Remember that they have to be the right format, not merely have the right file extension.

You need an app that will take media files in one format and export them to another format. I am unsure if Windows Media Player will do that, but I am sure there are other apps out there for the job.

I rather doubt a Wav file format is supported in the game.

I think, by Trugrit's advice, the game only recognizes/plays MP3 and SFX formats. MP3 is pretty common so you should be able to find a program that will export to that format. So if the file is already in MP3 format you do not have to convert it, you just have to rename it with the number and SFX file extension and if Trugrit's post is correct, it should work. Otherwise, you would need to find a program that actually converts the file to a real SFX file.

They are already MP3 files but won't play in game. Beginning to wonder if it's another Win 10 quirk [8|]

The mp3’s download direct and all you should have to do is rename them.
The game can read several types of files including Wav format.

I suspect this is a Windows 10 problem.
Windows 10 may have it blocked.
I don’t use Windows 10 so I can’t help with this.

But…….Will the files play on a media player after you download them?
If not I suspect they are blocked by Windows 10.

Check the file properties and see if you can unblock it.

Side Note: I use VLC media player because it will play almost all music formats.

Do you have your music turned up to five on the preference screen?

The game runs a routine when it picks music files.
You may not hear the file right away.
Put several files in the sound folder.

Yes music is set to 5. I turned up my speakers but nothing. Game sound effects are ok but absolutely no music

Found a better solution. Spooky's site for the original WiTP has a fair few sound files which will work on AE including music already in SFX format. Here - http://mathubert.free.fr/
