1st 5 Minutes

Post by AZKGungHo »

So of course I couldn't wait till I got home and have played the first 5 here - starting from when it's go time to hit Poland. I did sit through the opening and everything look nice.

The map seems to be a bit jerky when I scroll it, that's about the only nag I have at this point.

I love the frontline feature and the ability to move units when you want too as far as their points will allow. This really makes the game seem much more like WW2 combat.

So far it's a very good experience - well done Hubert and Bill!

I have also played the first five minutes (a peril of working for myself is my boss let's me take time off during the day to do cool stuff). Game downloaded nicely on Chrome and opened fine. I glanced at the manual which seems to be well written and plunged in as the allies. Did a quick half turn watching the Germans attack Poland. It was not 100% clear to me what was going on other than that the Germans were pushing them out of the way. Looked around the allied turn just noting things such as morale, convoys and PM points. I do like the strategic decisions you have to make. It's a nice flavor. So far the interface seems pretty intuitive to me, but I think it helps that I've played wargames for over 40 years. It might be a bit more daunting for a first time player. I'm sure that the final version will have an introductory scenario.

So far it looks really good and the map looks good. I like the more realistic graphics.

So far the only suggestion I would add would be some sort of explanation box when you're on the options screen. There are a number of options that one can select or deselect but no way to figure out the effect of these options without referring back to the manual. It's not a huge deal but might be nice.

Ok, I've done a bit over a half hour. It's going very well and plays pretty smoothly.

I did see two notifications about the BEF going to France as the German. Is that correct?

Also, this is probably just me but how to do you undo a wrong move? I'm so excited about this that I've moved several units incorrectly and can't find an undo button. However, control-Z works just fine!

So far so good. I've taken Poland and moving onward. I've also started a second game as the Allies just to give me a feel for both sides.

This game feels like SC but better, if you know what I mean.

Hi

I'm not sure why there would have been two if the B.E.F. were sent to France. I'll run a test and see.

Thanks

Bill

Hi Bill,

I think the double notification would relate to the AI end of turn summary that pops up after the AI turn is over. If it was the only event at the end of the turn, would it appear to pop up twice in a row?

I think it might be best when starting a game against the AI to turn off Messages (AI Turn) as otherwise such messages will be seen twice.
