And to take a break from the more complicated work, here is a "simple" little scenario I put together.

If the title doesn't tell you anything... [:D]

Hopefully it's a neat enough representation of the famed impossible challenge in the real world - see if you can find a way to beat it, or at least lose gracefully! Most things about this one are relatively straightforward, although I did make a fairly extensive use of pop-up messages, and used "Special Actions" for radio and crew interactions. These are mostly there for flavour.

It was mostly inspired by the fact that the USS Zumwalt's first real-world commander happens to be named James Kirk [:)]

I have decided to use RHIB's, hoping they wouldn't cause PRC to escalate. This triggered rescue events, but at the end I got message that rescue failed, everyone died, and somehow triggered the "Scenario Over - Zumwalt Lost" event and its message even without destruction of Zumwalt.

Ooh, interesting thinking! I will have to work on that one somehow, thanks for the heads-up :) Clever solution, though.

I should also write up a little note about RHIBs - since there are presumably a lot of survivors in the water, I assumed that the RHIBs alone aren't enough for the rescue. At the moment, you can either complete the rescue in 60min without using the RHIBs, or in 20 min if you deploy them both. Will work on that!

As with the Star Trek counterpart for this scenario however, it is supposed to be impossible.

My thoughts on "impossible" scenarios return to a line delivered by the talking computer in the old movie Wargames: "The only way to win the game Global Thermonuclear War is to not play."

To not enter the Neutral Zone is also a valid option. In fact, one starship captain refused to proceed with rescue at all.
Me? Based on
- certain and fast destruction of Kobayashi Maru (confirmed with Fire Scout)
- (possible) inadequate evacuation capability
- insufficient defensive firepower (I didn't think 64x ESSM were (capable) enough)
- possibility of full retaliatory attack including everything up to (hopefully without) DF-21D in case of return fire
I've decided to use only non-vital assets in rescure operation (Fire Scout and boats), because entering the Neutral Zone with a ship would ensure a firefight for which I was IMO ill-prepared.

Yes, and that's an option too - you'll notice that if you preserve your strength, you do get an "average" (albeit still positive) score. I just tried to guilt the commander into trying to do something.

Revisions coming eventually - I've been trying to think of a way to add a twist to it that makes it winnable in some sort of sideways way. There is actually a "Kirk" way of winning, but right now it's "inactive" and would have to be activated in the editor :)

I have a problem that even if I order Zumwalt to stop before first tick in the scenario, enemy still pursuits me and shoots first. Since I do not deviate from the planned course, no way I can be violating the exclusion zone. I would expect the enemy to remain silent if I just stop where I am.

I needed, like, 15 minutes more, but the scenario ended. I continued further and got the rescue event but it was past the end of scenario.
