Beta Test
I felt i would start playing as the Axis powers on Beginner level to get a feel for the game.
I felt that the AI moved just a little slow for my taste.
I was able to take a few quick cities invading Poland.
Danzig fell a little quick.
Not much resistance.
Germany did push into Poland with ease.
But that is what really happened over 75 years ago.
When it was the AI's turn to move, Poland did not counterattack anywhere.
Britain and France did their DOW on Germany as usual.
Some of the British fleet did attack some of my submarines and there was mutual damage on both sides.
I felt combat was a little too quick.
This is a wargame...and i would like to see some battles in the war....except an explosion or two.
Can it be made easier to distinguish which units havent moved yet?
I had a little difficulty trying to see who to move next without using the next unit buttons.
All in all...i did like what i saw.
Ill continue the Sept 1939 a little later.

RE: Beta Test
For Poland it was found that they could fall too easily if they didn't fall back on Warsaw so that is how the AI is set to perform at least for this part of the war.
The 'Quick Animation' option would speed up some of the AI moves on its turn, the assessment phases will still take some time, but speeding up the actual movement will also speed up the animation on combat as well.
For units that have fully moved they are darkened a bit, is this sufficient or would you like it darker? Or is it something else such as the indicators for moved but can still attack, or attacked but can still move etc.?

RE: Beta Test
December 1939.
Poland surrenders.
It took me an extra two months to defeat the Poles.
On beginner level, which i am playing on, i should have crushed them with even more ease than the month it took Germany to do it historically.
Maybe the game time should be slowed just a little and not as many days pass by per turn.
I do like the choices to be made by the player as that can put some a-historical info towards the game.
You can still darken the counters a bit more, but i think a colored outline around unmoved units might work better.
IMO another zoom in level would work to.
Get you closer to the action that you are planning to do.
Im using NATO counters for the time being.
You are using CC for battlecruiser designation.
NATO uses BC for battlecruiser and CC for command cruiser.
A command cruiser is different than a battlecruiser for a CC is usually a flagship.
I would change CC to BC for battlecruisers.
Examples like Scharnhorst, Hood et al.
In my last turn before i saved, it rained all over Europe.
I mean ALL OVER the continent.
Might want to have smaller weather patterns instead of all over the map.
Map scroll is WAY to sensitive and too quick.
Maybe slow it down?
Maybe increase the size of the fonts.
A little too small.
Will play more tomorrow.
havent decided to continue the current game...or restart on higher level to see how the Polish campaign plays out on the next difficulty setting.
What do you guys think?

It should take you about 3 turns only, unless you go hunting down every unit. Try to focus on the Capital city for your next game.
You can still darken the counters a bit more, but i think a colored outline around unmoved units might work better.
I like the idea!
IMO another zoom in level would work to.
I'd like one more zoom in and a zoom out level also. Perhaps to make it configurable to use 3 or 5 levels?

I've seen this mentioned before. I believe the CC designation is correct for the timeperiod of WW2. They changed it later in time.
I'm no grog though, just read it on the forums here. [:D]

Agreed! I believe this was actually the case in the earlier versions of SC2.

If possible i'd like Hubert to add a 0,5 sec delay to the mapscroll function.
RE: Beta Test
I'm not the best player but I kinda agree, not sure how many days pass/turn at the moment, I think 14. could perhaps be reduced to 7-11 or something. Based on how far a unit can move it seems like they should be able to cover those distances in less days than it is now.Maybe the game time should be slowed just a little and not as many days pass by per turn.
I did everything historical and I just managed to knock out Greece in something like August 1941, and was going to declare war on the soviets the next turn(bad timing I know), but unfortunately they beat me too it :/
But then again it's my first time playing..

RE: Beta Test
Regarding Danzig, perhaps the campaign setup can be improved with a Polish division or brigade deployed up there.

RE: Beta Test
Decided to restart the game.
Decided to use intermediate level...no comp experience.
Read the manual a little to get some understanding on some of the mechanics of the game.
Captured Poland this time in 3 turns learning from previous game.
Will continue this game to conclusion.
On reports pages...text is going off the graphics.
It seems like the war is scripted historically as France and UK just sit there and let Germany capture Poland.
Historically thats how it went yes...but would like to see some a-historical replies to the Polish Campaign.
Will build Germany and Italy up and prepare for Norway invasion or just attack France earlier.
Unit bases on the 3d counters would look better if national symbol IMO was used underneath the unit icon.
Like John Tiller's Campaign Series units look.
I would upload pics to this forum...but for the life of me...i just dont know how.
Too many restrictions.

RE: Beta Test
Hello, so far looking good. Anyway to make the map scrolling a little smoother?
RE: Beta Test
February 1940.
Have OPMOV German units to French borders.
German navy got crushed by UK and France.
I think the German ships are a bit underpowered.
Even though the Kriegsmarine was never really designed or used for surface actions, they should be a little tougher IMO.
Will invade France soon.

Hi Rick,
Can you describe what you find not to be smooth with the scrolling? Is it the map scrolling when you use the arrow keys or move the mouse to the far edges of the screen, or the map scrolling when you attempt to click and drag the map? Or something else?

But its okay...ive been called worse...lol.
Map scrolling is a bit jagged.
Also...there should be a delay in scrolling.
As soon as my mouse pointer moves to the edge of the map...it scrolls.
Too sensitive for my tastes.
Uncommonly, the map scrolls when i click and drag...but not often.

Thanks Robert for the feedback and to clarify I was replying to RickEAllen above your post on scrolling... I guess quoting will avoid any improper name calling [:)]

RE: Beta Test
Robert sums it up pretty well. Also the zoom in and zoom out is a bit jagged as well.
One other thing, several times when I've moved a sub unit next to another ship unit (and in my case it was my sub unit moving adjacent to a DD and a CA) the DD and the CA disappear. Is that bug or part of the fog of war?

RE: Beta Test
Ok. I've found Ostwindflak's post regarding the disappearing ship units.
2. I have noticed that if you move the mouse around while selected on a unit (checking it's movement paths) in say 4-6 directions (it varies) the movement path and final destination icon for the unit will disappear. I've run into this numerous times. I will grab a screen shot of it if it is not already known. I have found that right clicking to deselect the unit and then re-selecting the unit fixes this. This has happened using both 3D sprites and NATO counters.

also when ships move at sea, and when they approach the text of the sea area, letters disappear.

RE: Beta Test
Okay...September 27, 1940.
Still have not conquered France.
IMO the Allies are over-powered or Germany is under-powered.
The Italian and German Navies are wiped out.
When the Allies attack, they seem to score 50% more damage.
In one turn, a UK Battleship score -8! on an Italian Battleship.
The Italian battleship was sunk on the next attack from an adjacent UK CA.
Both Axis air air forces are pretty much wiped out.
The German Luftwaffe was useless against the French.
Couldnt do anything.
They kept on being blown out of the sky.
I know France had a very good Army, but the Germans were superior to them in materiel and morale.
IMO...you have some MAJOR balancing issues at this time.
Also, you really might want to consider changing the amount of time passage for each turn.
I would suggest one week per turn from March to October and two weeks per turn from November to February.

I also want shorter turn lenghts, I'm soon in 1944 and only played 1 weekend, I want a game like this to last a little longer. I like your suggestion with only november to february being 2 weeks while rest of the year is 1 week.

Thats pretty long imho. Especially if you want to play a multiplayer game over the weekend it shouldn't take longer then one weekend imho. What was the amount of hours played?
