First impressions Lehnartsson based on build 8

Post by Lehnardtsson »

The game is great great game - clearly a must buy :)
below is the summary up to date to all the posts below.
Please note that v7h2 is currently taken in account (many map changes were made)

WISCHES :
1) "historical weather" as an option
2) Policy for Occupation of Russia as in Time of fury - you can also create Baltic coutries + Ukraine to avoid partisan
3) Ethiopia : possibility for Italy to reinforce Ethiopia before the war
5) foreign legions + Volksdeutsche are too limited
india legion but Indian legion was really "small"
6) Garrison in Petsamo and Murmansk + possibility to create the lappland army directly in Finland to promote this area
7) script to promote "one last blitzkrieg"
8) script to create "city fortersses like Breslau and Königsberg
9) an event to promote flak in every city of Germany? (everyone including children had to be "Luftwaffenhelfer")
10) an event to transfert units from flak to Wehrmacht? (Göring Spende : the divisions were raised from 200,000–250,000 Luftwaffe ground, support and other excess personnel)
11) an event to create "hidden industrial" centers (hidden MPP - you cannot bomb them) for Germany?
12) an event to transfer unit currently in "school" earlier but at half strenght? (some last stand measure...)

MAP IMPROVEMENTS :
to correct or add some locations :
- Ruhr Gebiet for information
- Dieppe for information
- Bocage (in Normandy) for information
- oil in hungary near Balaton
- Wolfschantze for information
- Konstanz Lake for information
- a redesign of the map near Königsberg to include Frische Nehrung and Kurische Nehrung
- Gustav Line (perhaps an event)
- there should be a road/railroad line in the hex between Strasbourg Mulhouse crossing the Rhine up to to railroad going from Stuttgart to Zürich (the "Colmar Pocket" that lasted until february 1945)

some new comments : (beginner/axis)

1) invading norway is far too easy, you just pay 150RP and you get the full country with free troops.....
I like it because in other games I always had troubles invading norway (I hate airborne + amphibious invasion...) but it is too cheap and on the other side some players might prefer to have the possibility to fight in Norway
2) on the other side I am suffering against France, which felt only in september 1940.....
=> There is no annexation of Alsace, this should be corrected with an event after fall of France
3) is it possible to have "historical weather" as an option?
4) it seems you cannot "build" fortress (unless event) but this would be really something interresting

I also think this might be interesting. I don't know if there is any provision in the game for West Wall, Atlantic Wall, Casino Line, or Panther Line. However, it would make for interesting Axis Decisions to use resources for these historical Fortified Lines or not.

You can use Engineers to build Fortifications and in turn build fortified line such as the West Wall, Atlantic Wall, Casino Line etc.

I'd like to be able to get some more engineers. I only got to fortify about 9 hexes in my last game.

Thanks for the answer - and the very next turn I observed the Brits in Egypt making forts with an engineer, so I posted one turn too soon !

DAK (Afrika Korps) is also rather cheap 200RP to get so many troops within a turn.... I mean you have no incentive to say no.

True. Unfortunately.

The DAK is really 500 MPPs, I had forgotten to correct some of the text. [:(]

The cost is a difficult question because one problem with increasing the cost is that it would reduce Germany's MPPs for the invasion of France. But I have an open mind on the exact MPP cost as the plunder does help offset the cost.

I understand that this Decision doesn't suit everyone. For those who prefer to invade they can say no to the Decision and do it manually, or disable the script, e.g. in Multiplayer.

I will get a section on disabling scripts into the Manual once the UI is complete.

I'm afraid not, the system is build around % chances by season.

It suited me, and I might guess that other beginners will also appreciate the option.

new comments :
1) really I like the map and the geographical locations of famous events (Ardennes, Hurtgen etc..)
but some are missing :
- Ruhr Gebiet
- Dieppe (famous British victory :) )
- Bocage (in Normandy)
- Pillau
- oil in hungary near Balaton
- Wolfschantze
- Bergchtesgaden
- Konstanz Lake
- a redesign of the map near Königsberg to include Frische Nehrung and Kurische Nehrung
- how about Bessarabia instead of Moldavia?
- Monaco as and alternate/industrial???? it is really small
- Halfaya Pass
- Bir hakeim
- Mareth Line
- Anzio
- Gustav Line (perhaps an event)

2) Really I am somewhere annoyed : Luxembourg and Alsace were annexed by Germany whereas in the game they remain a country or part of France
It brought manpower to germany (around 150 000 men durng the war including Luxembourg)

3) sometimes I do not understand why I can reinforce fully my Italian troops in Lybia and just add 1 point in Russia or in Albania....

4) Strat move : (good improvement) but it is curious : you take a mecanised unit to occupy enemy territory, then you can strat move immediately after
more curious : after strat move you convert some ennemy territory - basicaly in many boardgames strat move if forbidden close to enemy...

I know this one ! It's the Supply Level at the units' location. Hit 'S' on the keyboard and this Supply Level is displayed. Less than 5 = No Replacements or Upgrades. Each step above 5 allows more of each. Left Click to hide the Supply Level display.

I'm just a rookie at this, but it seems to me that HQ's are extremely important to your Supply Levels.

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry to hear this.

Unfortunately having them annexed does cause complications when it comes to liberating them, especially with Luxembourg, as it would be part of Germany and the engine doesn't allow us to easily remove them from Germany and return them to independence without removing any Allied units from their territory and placing them somewhere else.

If and when the engine changes, then we'll be able to do this. [:)]

Do you mean the Operate move? If so then that looks like a bug as Operating should be the only action possible during the turn.

some remarks :

1) Occupation of Russia :
In time of fury or the other one (can't remember) you had the option as Axis Player to determine what is your policy against minorities in Russia either :
- agressive (historical)
- less aggressive and creation of Ukraine + "Baltic Countries" (= no partisan there)

2)Ethiopia
I saw nothing as Italy to reinforce Ethiopia before the war

3) foreign legions + Volksdeutsche
- there were many foreign legions fighting for the Axis
maybe some events should occur?
the manpower for germany should increase?
of course moral and material were not so good but numbers were high (not in Wehrmacht but in Waffen ss)
8 slavic divisions
4 hungarian
3 baltic divisions
3 "northern europe" nederland - wiking - wallonia
1 french

- Volksdeutsche
does the integration of all the sattelites countires to the Axis increase German manpower since many Volksdeutsche were drafted in Wehrmacht?

there are events ofr Indian legion but it was really small...

In fact as an active boardgame player operate move happens before everything else
In SC you can during your turn conquer territory and then operate move with another unit in the recently conquered area - moreover you can even "conquer" more territory after strat move when there is no enemy close
somehow I found it curious but it is not a bug

American people liberating Alsace (which was completed in february 1945...) considered Alsace as "German people" since language was mostly german dialect as Alsace was german during middle age and between 1871 and 1918. Anyway I do not want to create polemic, check wikipedia : Alsatian has a complicated history
There were no real partisan at that time in this area and after war time was highly sensitive since many people cooperated (they considered Germany as the "natural owner" of Alsace)

So either :
Germany annexes those territory and keep it until the end
Germany annexes those territory and as soon as Luxembourg strasbourg Metz and Mulhouse are liberated you create an event that changes the boundaries...

I see, I had misunderstood your previous post but I understand it now. [:)]

The factor here is the strength value of the resource captured, as due to various factors Scorched Earth it may or may not be possible to operate a unit in. Too much damage and it won't be possible.

new remarks :
1) there is no arctic fight, I mean around Murmansk and Petsamo - at least some garrison would be nice
2) As far as I remember there si no possibility for Germany to help Finland in 1939 like sending weapons (MPP)
3 I would appreciate an automatic end for events like Midway etc...you have to click to close them.
4) I am surprised with the snowy mountains in Wales. There should probably be none, and more in Alps.
