Windows 10 Game Issues

Post by Capt Cliff »

I just upgraded to WIN 10 and added the -deepcolor to my command line and the game works fine for one problem, more and annoyance that a problem. When I go look at the Operation Report the game minimizes showing the desktop at a huge display! It only lasts for a a second or tw. Also if I have a program running (in the background) minimized onto the task bar the icon project through WitP and displays on the screen! Also occasionally the time will display from the system tray!

Addendum; I have also encountered during turn execution the game with hang up, with clicking noses (might be combat noises stuck), and when I hit the esc key to close a combat window the game hangs up!

Has anyone else seen these problem and do you have a solution? I searched the other WIN 10 issue thread but no joy on what I am seeing or I missed it!

I guess you are also using the -dd_sw switch.
At least I experience these "bleed-throughs" with the time (and open folders), when using this switch (required for me to solve the extreme scroll lag) It seems open windows or even the Windows time field on the task bar are grabbing the focus whenever they update / refresh.

Is there a way to set Win 10 to Win 7 compatibility for this game?

No solution, only trying to remember to close all windows and apps. The only solution would be to not use -dd_sw if you do not need it.

The core problem seems to be that modern drivers and Windows 10 on the one side and the old graphics commands used in WitPAE on the other side don't go along well.
It seems no graphics cards manufacturer puts any effort to really make the old DirectDraw work. You could try to open a support case with NVIDIA, AMD etc. to get them to look at the problem. I am sure they all will answer (surely in a more polite tone) "What a waste of manpower and resources"

~dd_sw is a command that "software direct draw" so it does not attempt to use the hardware direct draw.
