Red Phoenix, 1986 [BETA]

Post by wqc12345 »

New Scenario I put together from the book Red Phoenix. This scenario is centered around the Alpha Strike mid-book against the DPRK bridging equipment on the Han. I loved this part of the book and I tried to keep it as close to the book as I could (based on what was described in that chapter).

Personally, I had a hard time keeping my losses to the levels of the book, but maybe you can do better..

TO: VICE ADMIRAL JOHN R. SAMPSON

FROM: CINCPACFLEET SOUTH KOREA FORWARD, ATSUGI, JAPAN

SUBJ: ALPHA STRIKE DPRK BRIDGE EQUIPMENT MARSHALLING YARDS NEAR HAN RIVER

GOOD MORNING ADMIRAL,

WE NEED TO HOLD THE DPRK AT THE HAN, THE WAR IS NOT GOING WELL FOR UN FORCES.

INTELLIGENCE ESTIMATES BELIEVE THE DPRK WILL ATTEMPT A HAN CROSSING DURING THE NIGHT OF JANUARY 1 TO MINIMIZE UN AIR INTERDICTION. KH-9 PASSES HAVE UNCOVERED CONCEALED BRIDGING EQUIPMENT FOR DPRK ARMOR AND MECHANIZED FORCES. THE KOREAN PEOPLES ARMY AIR FORCE HAS ALL BUT CEASED TO COVER THEIR GROUND FORCES SOUTH OF THE DMZ AND HAVE PULLED BACK TO PROTECT PYONGYANG AND OTHER INDUSTRIAL CENTERS. WE ARE CONCERNED HOWEVER THAT SOVIET ASSISTANCE, IN BOTH MEN AND MATERIAL, WILL RECOUP THEIR LOSSES QUICKLY AND AS SUCH WE NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR ALL EVENTUALITIES.

YOUR MISSION THIS MORNING IS TO CONDUCT A DAYLIGHT ALPHA STRIKE ON THOSE BRIDGING ASSETS NEAR THE HAN. USAF HAS SCHEDULED A MORNING OVERFLIGHT OF THE LOCATION USING AN SR-71 OUT OF YOKOTA AFB. IT WILL MAKE THREE PASSES AND THEN RETURN, NO OTHER OVERFLIGHTS ARE SCHEDULED. USAF HAS RIVET AND AWACS ASSETS COORDINATING AIR COVER AND STRIKES ON DPRK POSITIONS, BUT YOU CAN MAKE GOOD USE OF THEIR INTELLIGENCE DURING YOUR PLANNING PHASE.

WE BELIEVE THE KOREAN PEOPLES ARMY AIR FORCE WILL MUSTER ALL A/C THEY HAVE AT THEIR DISPOSAL TO STOP YOUR STRIKE.

TAKE ALL CARE TO MINIMIZE LOSSES, THE GROUND FORCES HAVE TAKEN HORRENDOUS CAUSALITIES AND SO FAR, THE NAVY HAS LOST ONE DESTROYER, SEVERAL KOREAN MERCHANT VESSELS, BUT WE HAVE YET TO BLOODY THE DPRK'S NOSE, SO MAKE SURE TO SEND THEM A NICE MESSAGE FROM UNCLE SAM.

GOOD LUCK ADMIRAL,

CINCPACFLEET

Ironically enough I was thinking about this battle just today! I'm going to jump right into this one!

Which data base did you use for the scenario?

DB3000, it's set in 1986, also with build 838.. With the most current service pack release.

the CVBG composition is odd.... there should be at least a couple more shooters... one a or more long range shooters... something with ER SAMS on it... longbeach.. lahey...california or something... a DDG kidd class would be good... and get rid of a couple spurance class boats... and you dont have any asw assets on any of your escorts... they should all have something....

well.... you dont have any asw air assets....

if there is no sub threat, it makes sense not to have ASW air assets, for the benefit of folks with smaller screens and slower CPUs - less clutter and less computational load.

I did not see a problem, except maybe that I never seen the ship threat - patrol boats are mentioned in the briefing but I have seen none of them.

initial loadouts are not quite to my liking but plenty of time to adjust and reload.

all in all looks fine.

Yea. It's a red herring. I had it, but decided to remove it, but I left it in
