Strategic Command UI issues and feedback

Post by Benedict151 »

Please use this thread to post any issues or suggestions you have with regard to the UI

This could include
- Whats clear
- What isn't
- Is the right information displayed?
- Is it easy to use? What would make it easier?
- Can you find everything you need?
- Are all the common orders and functions easily accessible?
- Etc.

Thank you

- The report screen "Losses" overlaps the report window
- The font of the strength indication (3D view) appear a bit thin and small
- The bitmaps for the display of ore mines and oil fields are hardly to identify at first glance
- When scrolling the menu bar disappears
- National morale of enemy nations are not displayed in the menu bar
- A graphical misrepresentation shows along the entire map below the line "137"

This is a really nice feature. I parked a medium bomber in northern Norway and it automatically interdicts convoys [as there is no air unit in range to protect the convoy]. No clicking or anything, it is automatic ... BRILLIANT !!

I bought the 1 German Maritime Bomber unit to do this also. Good feature.

Does the Maritime Unit get more than the 4-5 MPP's per turn that the Medium Bomber gets ?

Yes, they have a slightly higher raid multiplier so they are more useful in this role.

One suggestion I would like to put forward is on the anti-tank units. Since SC2 I have wondered why there was never anything implemented where they can provide defensive support fire like an artillery unit can. It would make more sense (at least in my mind) as their attack ability is rather weak against enemy armor formations. They do better on the defensive (and very rarely will the AI attack an AT unit with an armored unit).

So I propose exploring the idea (if it is feasible) of making anti-tank units have a one strike defensive fire ability that can support a unit within one hex of the anti-tank unit.

I know that a smart player will bleed off this defensive fire with an infantry unit and then follow up with an armor unit, but it still feels to me like the anti-tank units have little to no purpose.

I use them mostly to garrison a section of the front or a town to free up an infantry unit as it is now. These units need a purpose in life I say. [:)]

Better let them start with Level 2. This will hurt a little more...

It might turn out to be helpful if you declare war against Saudia Arabia first (War Map --> War Map --> Declare War --> pick the Saudis Flag and confirm the declaration of war) ...

It would be nice if saved games would show time of day and not only the date it was saved. One time my game crashed and I didn't know if my save or autosave was the latest one.

Also is there any chance we could have an option to adjust difficulty levels after a game has been started?

I really struggle with the placement of the MPP information on the left side of the screen.
Feels like my eyes knot themself while looking up, down, left and right.

Please check if it might be possible to show the national flags & MPPs on the top of the screen (middle placement). Feel free to move the menu buttons like research, war map etc on the left or better right side of the screen.

You really need the MPPs amounts often in the game. While they are at the top and in the middle of the screen, you simple see the information. Looking left or right is so much more exhausting, while offering not a single advantage on itself.

Just a general suggestion how it could look like with Mpps, Flags and NM bar in in the middle of the top screen ...

... while the menu buttons moved to the button, left (and unused) side, with a real time clock information added into the left lower corner:

How do you get all five of them ? I've only got Germany and Italy in the upper left. I looked in the Advanced Options but didn't see how to do it.

If it isn't already in the works, I think this is a really good idea. Also, it would be real convenient if we could grab and move those buttons so they are arranged more like each person wants them. The most used could be moved closer to the center. I've got a program for work that allows that, don't know how difficult it is to program, though. [;)]

I imagine that Claus did it by starting a campaign in Hotseat mode, and taking a screenshot from the Axis side and then again when starting the Allied turn. Then piecing them together afterwards.

That left area will be used for the rightclick menu options.

What you see is the Allied side. But i agree that it would be nice to get Germany & Italy shown, too.
