If you are just now starting to move from March Field to Santa Ana, then you are too late. The Japanese most certainly already have units marching from Santa Ana to March Field, and if they get there first that is another hexside they will control in superior defensive terrain. You will be forced to fight your way out of L.A. and March Field against Japanese with good defensive terrain multipliers. You allowed the Japanese to employ economy of forces tying down >3 times their numbers. Meanwhile you will be defending San Diego with no terrain multiplier.

This operation has taught me the value of Rommel's strategy for defending Normandy in comparison to von Runstedt's plan to mass for a decisive counterattack. I'll have to pay more attention to map detail when planning future operations seeking to gain advantages, and prevent disadvantages due to terrain.

Keep in mind though that he doesn´t have unlimited number of divisions. If the move from Santa Ana to March isn´t a fake and he moves 2-3 divisions that is 2-3 divisions less marching on SD. If my intel is right he has about 12-14 divisions in this operation.

1 is stuck at Santa Barbera.
2 (minimum) was wrecked in the unprepped landing.
3 is at LA. And he will need to reinforce with at least 2 divisions more.

That is 6 divisions already not available for SD with at least 2 more needing to reinforce LA. That doesn´t leave much for SD and moving for March Field.

Also keep in mind that Rommel didn´t have to cover the entire West coast of the USA. If I had gone for that strategy I would have had 2 divisions in both LA and SD at best right now with the rest arriving in 2-3 days...Instead I have 3 divisions in SD and 10 in LA.

Keep in mind that all the SIGINT I had was pointing to a Vancouver invasion. If I hadn´t had a reserve ready in strat mode in central US and reacted immediately on that sub DL I would almost certainly have lost SD. Now I still have a chance.

First, let me apologize for seeming harsh. That was not my intent. I had no complaints about your deployment of defenders in anticipation of the invasion. I would have done much the same. It is only with hindsight that I realized the problems with such deployment. I should have done a better job of trying to communicate that an active defense would likely have been preferable to waiting.

I plead guilty to sacrificing clarity for brevity. I hope you will take some unsolicited advice. Keep the pressure on constantly. His units will wear out before yours.

I always built forts at SD, LA and SF on turn 1. Not on this scale though and I never leave extra engineers for it. Glad I did this time though! [:D]

I think you are doing an awesome job!

You have been under intense pressure from day one and have countered with sound moves every step.

I agree with Crackaces, the Japanese must be using up a heap of fuel and supply. The Japanese will pay for their over-aggressive Imperialist expansion in 1945.

Jocke I agree that you are doing an amazing job here. Your prep and awareness of each step along the way is remarkable, especially the prescient move to send troops into LA early. That is the base you could not afford to lose.

I do disagree with Crackaces and Rio Bravo that this is an overextension for Japan IF, and this is a big if, he can take SD. Ruining that aircraft production and gaining any troop VPs plus the possible leftover fuel would essentially pay for the operation.

What kind of fuel/oil is in SD now?

That is a good point. San Diego might have 1,000,000+ fuel.

Fuel should be accumulating at L.A. and S.F. rather than S.D. L.A. because of production and S.F. because of command HQ. S.D. should only have been drawing for its needs. I'll be shocked if there are large stocks sitting there.

And 250k to Japan is like another 75 oil production site for an entire year. That assumes it could be used or hauled back of course.
