I can't reconcile that range does not matter for the firing phase and everyone from initial developers to every other mod including dababes carefully giving ranges from 0 to 3 for an hundred of non bombardment devices where range does not matter.
When you said this:
There is no inconsistency in what is being said. I don't see inconsistency with the DaBabes data you mentioned. The 90mm gun did not merit a 3 value because it is high velocity or because it might be employed against enemy tanks. It merited it simply because the scenario designer wanted it to participate in bombardment (provided it isn't classified as a DP in the game as the range threshold is then 15), assuming of course it isn't a mistake.
You were answering to this (The 90mm gun with 3 range is the AFV M36 Jackson gun):
" On AFVs i see range from 0-3, 3 is for Russian hvy assault guns and M36 Jackson Tank destroyer, so it was felt that a 90mm high velocity gun warranted a 3 range." So why that TD and the Soviet assault guns have range 3 since an AFV can't bombard?
That is why i had to ask if AFV can bombard you seem to imply that it could . That and the fact that stock put M7 Priests as AFV.
Thanks for the information regarding that and AA guns. All values of 90 M2 DP and 90 M1 AA and M36 Tank Destroyer AFV are those of scenario 28 DaBabes.
Also manual have apparently another opt out regarding bombardment if the info is still actual: "Unit must be an Infantry, Armor, Artillery or Coast Defense unit". So i suppose a DP gun - even with all other requirements fulfilled - in an AA unit will not bombard. Unless AA unit is considered Artillery too.
Most weapons in my game are not in any mod since it is a Mediterranean mod. No big deal since a 105mm gun is a 105mm gun everywhere. It is just finding the existing values and going from there. There are some idiosyncrasies, for example while anti-soft seems to be weighted, effect instead seems mostly straight linear from round weight.
So to recap Bombardment:
Only Army Weapons and DP guns if:
Range 3 or or more for Army Weapons, 15 or more for DP guns and 5 or more Anti Soft for both.
Must belong to an unit that must be an Infantry, Armor, Artillery or Coast Defense unit (if this still in effect)
