More tomorrow at Chuhsien. Recovery at Chengtu plus movement to impede supply from Chungking, and bring up more forces.

All the armor exited the hex of contact at the main spearhead and the 3x infantry divisions will do so tomorrow. Two of the remaining uses took damage as they issued out of supply messages in the Operations Report, and stacking is still >200% until they do. But then a miracle happened. The various measures we took yesterday plus almost all of that 108k supply convoy unloading at Hong Kong made a huge difference. The main spearhead is now fully supplied. We will continue with the alternate tactics because the Imperial line there is now strong with the element of surprise lost, and it will save us mountains of supply to reduce stacking where we cannot break through in timely fashion.

The PBJ-1D at Nago assigned to hit the B7A2 Grace factories at Nagasaki/Sasebo reported 9 hits. Recon shows those factories at 4(27), nearly all off line! Fighter opposition was heavy and took a toll of the Corsair escorts and the PBJs, because... all... the... sweeps... came... later. Doh!

Five USA Base Groups unloaded from a transport TF at Kushiro today and are unpacking. Air support is now almost covered (and more is on the way), a goodly number of engineers are on site (more on the way).

The USA 93rd ID is prepared for Asahikawa and is en route to Kushiro. Two of the APA have had a serious collision and are splitting off to plod along without slowing down the whole convoy as their combined speed now is about 5 knots. The two damaged ships will unload at Pagan and replacement transport will pick up the troops.

Those two DD TF assigned to patrol out of Kushiro into the enemy bases on Hokkaido to the west both sprinted to their assignments and engaged patrol types last night and today. Then suffered numerous air attacks without cover, and they are a day early. They got much the better of the death glider attackers, until finally a destroyer in one TF was torpedoed and a destroyer in the other TF was hit by 3x kamikaze. One DD lost, one almost certainly will not make port.

The Hakodate invasion has orders to land tomorrow. A DMS mine sweeping TF will move into the hex and hopefully be protected from the 109 guns there by three BB TF and one CA TF bombardments. The CVE and several CA and CL TF will also enter the hex to provide cover for the convoy. Three fleet CV TF will be one hex to the east, just SE of Muroran, along with several other surface combat TF and two old BB TF held back to bombard the following day. The convoy itself is loaded fairly shallow with the remaining space filled with supply. The convoy totals 44 ships including 1x CB, 7x DD, 3x DE, 2x DMS, 2x AM, 21x APA, 6x AKA, and 2x LSD. Recon shows 6 units with 7,120 troops, 109 guns, and 27 AFV.

There appear to be about 100 fewer fighters based at Osaka/Kyoto than previously, even with strong DL, so I think the air losses to the west and the east are causing the Empire to shift fighter assets away from the center of the Home Islands to some degree.

Yet another good day in China. Wenchow and Chuhsien are both ours, courtesy of enemy units leaving to set up better defenses elsewhere. A strong tank Bn will cross the river into Anking on the run (move mode) against 2,100 troops in 2 units, one of which was retreated two times earlier. There will be a lot of air power helping to soften the target in clear terrain.

Another >200k supplies are due to land at Hong Kong tomorrow and the general supply situation is much better in China, so I am trying an experiment. I am standing down the airlift of supply into China. Also, this turn both Command HQ at Singapore are loading onto transports for movement to Formosa, where they will not hold supply in Singapore.

Fighter sweeps of Nagasaki/Sasebo continue to go well although the combats are smaller than before, in spite of >60 enemy fighters there. Our sweepers are all tired and will stand down for at least one day. I think the next strategic bombing target will be the 120x Nakajima Ha-45 factories at Matsuyama. We will have to sweep there and/or Hiroshima/Kure first (just one hex away), as the target has 31 fighters and Hiroshima/Kure has 150. The B-24s at Daito Shoto and in the Okinawas can reach the target quite handily as of course can the B-29s, so we should be able to put in a large series of strikes. The B-29s are less than 50% ready with lots of airframe maintenance ongoing.

The landing at Hakodate went very well with only a minor set back of damage to a CVE. It seems that our carriers caught the IJN MTB flotilla at anchor!

Many other patrol craft were destroyed by combat vessels, so no complaint. Several enemy air strikes were also wiped out to the last plane. On the ground, it looks like more troops have been rushed in as recon now shows 6 units, 9,200 troops, 153 guns, and 44 AFV. The fortress and the regiment are probably the only serious obstacles.

Our two divisions have disruption and fatigue just a bit higher than I would like for a first attack (14% + 30%; 8% + 20%), but I want to take advantage of the naval bombardments and settle the matter as quickly as practical. Deliberate attack tomorrow, with all old battleship TF and a number of CA/CL TF bombarding. All the CVE TB will also assist.

Kushiro is completely repaired and building the airfield. Not to mention reloading battleship main guns as asked! By tomorrow there will be enough air support for all aircraft at Kushiro, but the base complex must grow quite a bit to provide space for them all to operate, except that the large cadre of flying boats will operate normally as soon as they are all made ready.

Our forces that captured Kushiro are still moving, some might make a full hex tomorrow. Trails are slow.

The rest of the armor will arrive tomorrow. The RN/French fast battleships are leaving Hong Kong with carrier escort to bombard Shanghai.

No more MTB successes for the Empire this day. CL Toungoo was hit by a 20 cm shore battery while bombarding Hakodate for 8 major flotation damage and will accompany CVE Matanikau to Pearl Harbor for repairs. More patrol types were destroyed trying to interfere with the liberation of Hakodate, but the first attack went very well.

Fatigue among our two divisions is about the same as yesterday (28%/29%), and disruption is only slightly higher (13%/14%) so the attack will continue. Two of the five P-47 squadrons at Kushiro will sweep Hakodate (a P-51 squadron is already sweeping Bihoro). Air attacks on the invasion fleet again failed to penetrate the fighter screen. Rain is expected in the region tomorrow. The invasion convoy will finish unloading the last few hundred supply tonight and then make for Kushiro. If we do take Hakodate with this invasion force that will be a major success. It was intended to be a holding/blocking force to fix enemy assets and attention while the Muroran invasion delivered the coup de gras to Hokkaido. From Hakodate to Tokyo is only 9 hexes, great for fighter sweeps.

Most of the infantry has exited the Kushiro hex. The rest, along with the armor, will do so tomorrow but the artillery might take two days. Even more support units will begin unloading at Kushiro tonight. Building toward airfield size 3 is at 64%. Supply at 540k.
