You have to admit he has a point. [;)] Your progress in China is really picking up speed now, very impressive and no doubt very gratifying too.

Thanks, yes it is. China has gone well. The main spearhead might have pushed through had I not screwed up the supply situation, but the alternate route looks pretty open. I think the Empire just doesn't have enough troops left to contain the whole front, so we can probe and break through, if not here then over there.

Honshu next?

From a few days ago:

Kochi on Shikoku will be the next major Home Islands operation. Even though we will push out from there as far as we can, the real objective is to secure the airbase and build it to size 9, primary initial use as a fighter base. Stacking limit is 50,000 and we are allocating 5 divisions plus some armor, artillery, and an HQ (possibly two). Preparation is just beginning at 33% for most units so estimate ~60+ days from now.

Kumamoto on Kyushu will come shortly after Kochi.

Tsu on Honshu is after that and will primarily be a Commonwealth operation, the last two targets mentioned being primarily American. Tsu and on to Gifu will be a big operation.

Akita and Hachinohe on Honshu will be the objectives of forces currently assigned to Hokkaido (including some in reserve on Formosa).

We have a division and an armored unit assigned to Tokara Retto, the closest island to the Okinawas. It can be built to size 5 and extend fighter range.

I keep waiting for the secret weapons to reveal themselves!

We just exchanged emails a few minutes ago about the same end-of-game (sometime in the next months to year, but we started more than 4 1/2 years ago!) feelings! The updates probably look more numerous than they are because I have taken to putting in certain screen pics with each turn's update. I figure it's easier to follow a running battle that way. And who doesn't like picture books? [:D] It actually helps me sometimes to figure out what is going on by scanning back to a previous map-pic and compare with a current turn. It's much faster than firing up old turns!

Hakodate repair yard I will not hesitate to use. With that size limit I'm not even sure an old Yorktown class would fit in there, so the risk is inherently limited.

Hokkaido is going much better than planned. Next turn (which will likely come tomorrow) I should have enough ships in place to order loading of the Muroran invasion forces. Combined with forces already on Hokkaido and on the way, that should be plenty to finish things in short order. I also have the three divisions on Formosa assigned as backup for Hokkaido that I can lift in drop at Kushiro or Hakodate. I might do that anyway because they need to be positioned there for the later invasion of NE Honshu. In fact, now that I know they do not need to combat land at Muroran and Hakodate I can get them preparing for Honshu.

In China, bypassing Shanghai is turning out to be an even better idea than I realized. Hangchow has >72k troops, Shanghai has >72k troops, there are at least 60k or 70k in the woods around at at Wuhu (~40k in hex with our stalled point of advance), some tens of thousands in the country and bases south of Shanghai and Hangchow, and unknown numbers in the bases immediately N and NW or Shanghai including Nanking, the primary target of the operation. Getting Nanking will lock those enemy forces in place more tightly, but even if it proves a tough target we seem already about to cut any fast egress from the area. And units marching across that open terrain would be savaged by our air groups.

At Sinyang our forces will rest before the next attack. The enemy near Foochow is undergoing zombie genesis.

Mauban was evacuated before we could attack today and fell without further fuss.

More dot-bases being overwhelmed by Allied might and denied to Imperial ghost ships.

Sweeps of Matsuyama scored a bit less than 3 to 1, with the only real enemy successes being against single squadrons.

The fires are almost out at Hakodate; runways still being worked on; airfield service 1/3 damaged; port totally out of commission. More IJN patrol craft sortied into oblivion. We now have 700 defensive mines at Hakodate.

The Muroran invasion forces are loading in the Marianas.

With the number of troops at both Shanghai and Hangchow plus in surrounding areas I'll have to tread carefully getting that done. Walter is always on the lookout for sharp counter attacks.

There are a bunch of auxiliary aircraft at Shanghai, and since I know planes from the Home Islands could reach there I figure those at Shanghai must be for picking up troops that are farther out. The RN/MN bombardment planned for this turn might put a kink in those operations. Of course seaplanes stopping from the HI can't be touched except by fighters, and that's down the road a bit.
