First full game complete

Post by saudivan »

First full game complete as Axis (third try as I made so many mistakes the first two tries I got beat early).
Thoughts:
To begin with...I had a blast playing.

Using MPP really shows the difference between countries like Germany and Italy. Italy is hampered by low MPP and must really make hard decisions on where to spend them to keep viable as a military...very well done.

When the Allies invaded Algeria, the Algerian fighter unit in Algiers was able to keep getting reinforced and held the city until the Italians and the Germans came to the rescue. As a general comment, the air units in particular could be used to hold portions of the front in a pinch. They would take heavy losses, but if not delivered a one, two, three punch, could hold the line in many cases. It seems that they should be able to be overrun much easier and not able to hold the front unless attacked by a weak unit.

The Russians seemed to be able to move, attack, and reinforce in the same turn. Is that intentional?

I noticed several times that cut off Russian units were able to reinforce. That led so some lengthy sieges. I think it took me a year and a half to take Tallinn, which was attacked by a huge German Army and way behind the front lines, even though it was being held by Anit-Air and Anti-Tank units. And partisans under attack by two or three units could hold out for months.

Gibraltar fell to a one, two punch by Spanish Armies with no air or artillery support. Seemed too easy, although the Italian navy had destroyed the harbors for several months.

I could not figure out how to attack Malta. It was held by an Anti-Air unit and Italian paratroopers were annihilated, and a German amphibious Corps was unable to attack. I finally bombed the unit to death after destroying the harbors, from the air and the sea, and then moved a unit in.

Events with Japan stayed in historical perspective. I hope there is some variety in the results with Japan. Or a way to aid the Japanese with MPP/diplomacy to make for a more varied timeline in the Far East.

I played on the easy level and the Allies surrendered in November, 1944. There were still some Russians left, about six Allied units in France, and the Allies owned the Atlantic.

I really enjoyed playing the game and am starting one on normal setting as the Allies.

Thanks for the report and this is indeed a bug that should be fixed with the next build.
