Between German Reforged and Southern Storm

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Between German Reforged and Southern Storm

Post by VilleYrjola »

This might sound a bit dumb but bear with me. Is there going to be another scenario pack between Germany Reforged and Southern Storm? For a while I thought that "Origins" was goint to be another scenario pack but that doesn't seem to be the case, am I right?

We are discussing the logistics of another Map/Scenario/Campaign right now and trying to decide if it is a good idea and what should be in it. We like the idea, but any time spent by the team on that is time not spent working Southern Storm. A lot hinges on if Steve, William and Charles have time to do some things and possibly look at making a set of alternate scenarios with swapped countries (NATO, of course) and/or swapped time frame like 80 or 85 or both. That would be a paid DLC type thing.

The Origins package will be worked by me over the next few days and will have the scenarios built and used (some did not get used) and there are some with side specific setups. I am also toying with the idea of including the end states of the staff exercises as a "Can you still make Lemonade" set of scenarios. In this case, you pick up where the fight ended at Origins and see if you can save the day. Or at least not get wiped out. [:D] The plan is to also include some of the PowerPoint briefings in the download as well for those scenario used.

You guys can sound off on what you would like to see in the DLC or if you even want one. It might help our direction on the project. [8D]

Hi,

Speaking strictly for myself, finalizing 11.6 and then Southern Storm are the big ticket items most deserving of your (limited) time and resources. Having said that (sound of ordering cake followed by eating noises) if you have any Origins scenarios or campaigns that can be quickly and easily made available/playable in a retail context to us that would be great as well. I'd even be willing to pay a reasonable amount for them. But not if it significantly delays the 2 aforementioned items.
Just my 2 cents. [:)]

Perhaps you might consider creating a poll about this whole topic.

Rob.
So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)

I wouldn't mind some more scenarios. Off topic question, once finalized is MR still going to re-balance the original scenarios?

We still want to do the rebalance on 2.0.11 is finalized.

The problem is that we keep seeing game mechanics or game outcomes that we want to improve upon ("just one more little thing, honest") that will impact the rebalancing. This has been the situation since we first started working on the game so nothing is new. We *really* do have to lock down the FPRS spec once and for all before the true rebalancing can occur. I believe this happened a few weeks ago now (fingers crossed) but we are waiting for 2.0.11 to ship before declaring that particular war won. Charles and MR can then rebalance with confidence.

I also think concentrate full blast on Southern Storm would be best.

We want to get to WW2 down the road after we get Southern Storm with the new game engine done. The new game engine code will give us a solid jump off point to head in a number of directions.

Capn Darwin, hi,

"We want to get to WW2 down the road after we get Southern Storm with the new game engine done. The new game engine code will give us a solid jump off point to head in a number of directions."

Sounds great. You will know, as you too have been a fans once rather than a developer [:)] , if fan of a game system/engine you always want more and more.If a fan its always too slow with the next setting.. [;)].

Lots to look forward to,
All the best,
Kip.

Well we are moving along slowly. Sadly I did not hit the Mega-Millions jackpot. That would have sped things up a notch. [:(]

That's funny, though if you did win I would say the temptation to spend the money on several long vacation to exotic locations and most probably you would have ended up hiding on an island somewhere sipping on a pina colada.[:)]

On this topic MR has 2 projects in the works. When the updates finally get finalized I will rebalance all the content I have created to date...AND...(drum roll) I am also going to do an Expert Gamer version of them. To tighten many of the better ones and a few additional ones that I consider might be made to be very difficult to beat.

These won't be for everyone but for those that think the current scenarios are too easy The Expert Gamer version could well be what you are looking for. Unless of course there is no interest in a scenario pack specifically designed to be tougher than normal to beat.

Good Hunting.
