The Japanese escorting cruiser inflicts an A on the SUB, which indeed aborts, rolling a 1. The TRS saves, rolling a 6. The Japanese decide to stick around for another round, as their planes in the two box do not want to abort. (Even though they can't participate in the combat, they are committed and would abort if the Japanese aborted.) The US rolled a 7. The Japanese roll was a 2, which is irrelevant, as the Japanese could not find the Americans on any roll. The US Sub aborts to Manila, the three Japanese ships to Tarakan, where the storm protects them from Allied bombers and there is oil for them to reorganize. The Japanese cruiser could have stayed at sea, but wants to be available for an escort mission on a future turn.

At this point, the Japanese accidentally ended their naval move. Oops. I had to restart the game and replay the naval combat.

No rail movement.

The Japanese wanted to block the Americans from crossing to Kyushu, but discovered to their surprise that the US ground strike had flipped the INF that could reach the critical hex. The Americans had thought that ground strike wasted when they failed to flip Hata. It wasn't. The Japanese instead send two divisions, both of which have to flip to get there. They also move an INF to Awaji Island, between Tokushima and Osaka.

The US uses all four air actions to put four more fighters into the three box of the China Sea.

The CW moves out most of their navy. Two TRS stay in Kiel, waiting for the last hex to be captured from the Germans. Many units are transported to the Red Sea. Crerar is transported to the Baltic. Blamey is picked up and moved to the Coral Sea. There are many Allied units that are vulnerable to attacks by Japanese subs, but they can't all be attacked. CW units in general head for the Pacific. Five cruisers and two carriers are added to the three box of the South China Sea.

The Allies try for combat in the South China Sea. They roll a 3, the Japanese a 1. One CW cruiser engages a Japanese CP. It gets an abort, and sends the CP to Tarakan.

The Allies try for combat in the China Sea. The Japanese react one more fighter to the one box. Both sides roll sixes. The Allies find the Japanese, but not vice-versa. The only unit the Allies have in the four box is a single Hudson. The Allies pick only the zero box of the China Sea, and pick a submarine combat. This does nothing, of course, but lets the combat continue.

The second round, the Allies roll a 4. The Japanese roll a 1. All units are included in the combat. The Japanese are dismayed to find that the Allies have managed to get a +4 advantage. There is no surprise. The first round, the Japanese roll a 9, AC, clearing a bad US bomber through. The Allies roll an 8, AA. They send the front Japanese FTR home. Now the battle is at +5/-5. After a lot of thought, the Japanese decide to abort. No screenshot.

The Allied air attack on the Japanese fleet is vicious, but the Japanese draw blood. At 1/1, the Japanese roll a 10 for AA! The US player blows up the Hudson.

The Japanese lose Junyo, with 2 CVPs and their pilots, Haruna, and a CP, and the Chikuma is aborted, leaving the sea empty of Japanese ships, but not planes.

The Japanese stay. The next round, the Allies roll a 1, the Japanese a 7. The Japanese get lucky, though, rolling a DA for their attack against an NE for the US. The Japanese, at +7/-7, abort, and try again.

There may have been a fourth round, where the Japanese fount the US, and if so, they destroyed a US CP alone in the zero. My records are contradictory, and my memory is non-existent.

The next round, no one finds anyone.

here are not nearly as many ground strikes this impulse: one in Germany, one in Korea, and one in China:
Munich: French A-22, Amiot 357, LeO 455 (the whole French airforce, 3, 5, 5) [57, 37]: 1: Kesselring disorganized (other units already disorganized);
Seoul: SB-2 (2) (All the good Russian planes are on the German front) [72,155]: 1: Seoul MIL disorganized;
Chihkiang: Chinese A-20B (4): 2: Osaka MIL disorganized.

Three ground strikes, three units disorganized. The chance of getting all three of them was 6.6%. The expected number of hits as 1.475.

The Russians rail Valtutin the Korean border. The US rails a bad MECH to Port Arthur.

The Allies continue to mop up against the Germans. The US tries to get off Shikoku. The Chinese move up to attack adjacent to Chihkiang. The Russians move to attack Seoul.

The first attack is the O-chit boosted Russian attack on Munich. It is automatic. After missing the fractional odds roll, the Russians roll a 17. Kesselring, the Munich MIL, a Bf-109, and two Stukas (plus pilots, of course) were destroyed.

The next attack is against a completely surrounded Manstein, who was out of supply and flipped. Again the Russians miss the fractional odds and waste a good combat roll, a 13. Manstein and a very bag GAR die. These German units weren't really doing anything, but the Russians had nothing better to do but to kill them.

The Chinese attack the hex adjacent to Chihkiang where a white print INF was flipped the first impulse. Unfortunately, I did not take a screenshot of this attack. it was a +12.667 attack. The Chinese destroyed the INF without loss.

Lastly, the US attacks Ota at +12 using three MAR units. The result will not go down as one of the great triumphs of the MAR corps, as the US rolls a 3, killing a Japanese ENG at the expense of the ARM MAR XX and an MAR corps. The last US unit flips. The Japanese are ecstatic: they claim that the Americans will never get off Shikoku.

Zhukov reorganizes two FTRs, for lack of anything else to do. De Gaulle reorganizes the whole French Air force (three planes). Nimitz reorganizes the two MAR units that are flipped, in the hopes that the US can do something after the disaster of the last attack.
