What is status on Aif, Lif, Pif, Fif in MWIF

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

What is status on Aif, Lif, Pif, Fif in MWIF

Post by gbenson34 »

As this game has been out for a while I was wondering if the following have been included into the game as of today's date.

America in Flames
Patton in Flames
Factories in Flames
Leaders in Flames

Thanks.

I do not know if their ultimate inclusion were even part of the original deal signed with ADG, but even if they were I would forget about them for the foreseeable future (and beyond). Plenty more to be done on getting MWIF working first without bugs, and netplay, and optional rules and single map campaigns and the AI..........

Thanks for the response and I can see what you mean about there being an impressive punch list still outstanding.

One other question. When you play solitaire I am assuming that you are playing all of the sides and countries. When air combat occurs are you prompted to respond with the other side's air units? IE Germany uses a tac air escorted by a fighter to attack Minsk. Would the Soviet 'player' (aka you, the sole player) then be prompted to respond with fighters in defense?

Yes. That is designed to act just like the board game. You announce the aircraft you are using (as the attacker) the defender then gets the opportunity to sortie before it goes back to the attacker to bring in any additional fighters.

Thanks again for the response. It certainly looks like a worthwhile purchase.

Playing solitaire mode, however, doesn't necessarily mean playing on your own. The AAR's show how play versus other human opponents can be done using Teamviewer, Skype or swapping files by E-mail.

Well worth a go after a bit of time getting used to MWiF.

I haven't looked into the rules for Factories in Flames. But for the other 3, I believe the counters are currently included.

Leaders in Flames would be a nightmare to code. The players frequently get to make decisions that are outside the normal sequence of play. So the player interface would have to accommodate those 'interruptions'.

For instance, the beta testers have recently been complaining that Emergency HQ Supply is available whenever a player wants to use it - even in the middle of the other player is moving units (e.g., to fly air intercept missions, or to give an out-of-supply unit about to be overrun 'instant' supply, thereby preventing the overrun). When playing the board game, players can interact easily for these types of decisions, but when the computer is involved, enabling a player to interrupt typically means 'asking' him if he wants to interrupt. This currently happens during naval movement into enemy occupied sea areas - just imagine what it would be like for land movement.[8|]

For the other, post - WW II, variants the setups for those 'scenarios' would require an enormous amount of work. Each land hex would have to be assigned as belonging to a major power or minor country and the relationships between all the major powers and minor countries would have to be encoded.

Ive always wondered why Emergency HQ supply couldn't be a menu item just like saving the game is a menu item. The player using it would select the command, select the HQ, and the game would implement the resulting supply changes similar to the way the sequence of play is interrupted for naval units that get overrun.

there are HUGE change in production and reinforcement rules, that have BIG impact. all the board players gruops that i know that have tested use FiF: so i think this is the first add (i think even before AI as is becoming the new standard)
But for the other 3, I believe the counters are currently included.
not the Heavy upgrade and not URSS guard banner. the others yes

You can even play by e-mail if only one player has the game. Requires a lot of Windows photos, and it helps if the player without the game is experienced.

i so want the single map scenarios. They got played the most in the old Wif days.
i see that fascist is labeled as a few months work to implement - that was 2014.

Well to each their own, but IMO FiF was a terrible addition and shouldn't be bothered with... and I know many that agree.

The counters are in the data files. If the optional rules are not turned on, then the program doesn't display them - but the data is there and when the optional rules are turned on, they appear in the unit lists. Note that only the beta testers can turn those optional rules on.

There is existing code to display those unit types.

EDIT: There isn't a special unit type for those units. Instead, they are identified as such by a flag in the data file.

I agree with you. IMO leader is the worst add-on, but i don't like factory too.
