How does one change a home planet of a particular race with out...destroying the race? I have tried to change a race to another type, successfully, but not able to change the home planet successfully.
Also, when I do change races, the ships, troops, & characters do not change, so I guess that is all done manually.
Anyways, thanks for any help/thoughts.

When designing the Star Trek map for my mod I need to change the races and give them the correct homeworld or I end up with the Klingons living on Vulcan.

Start up Distant Worlds and go into the game....pause the game and go into the Editor.

In the Editor Click on Edit Empires and select the Empire you want to move and Click Edit Empire
Click on the Colonies Tab and this will show you where the current Home world is
In my example the Klingons are on a world called Alfirk VI instead of Qo'noS which is their correct homeworld.

So I need to move them from Alfirk VI to Qo'noS

Press Close twice to exit back to the Game Editor screen.

Click on colonies and then select the Empire you want to create a colony for...in my case Klingons

In the map screen use right mouse button down and go to the planet you want to add the colony to.
In my case I go to the Qo'noS system...zoom in to see the planets and then left mouse click on the planet Qo'noS

The information bottom left of screen for that planet will now show that you just added the race to the new planet as a new colony.
Now you have 2 planets each with a colony on them.

In the editor click on Clear Items....but don't select anything else yet.

Click on Edit Empires and select the empire you want to change.
Go to the colonies tab and you will see your Empire has 2 colonies.

Click on the colony you want to remove.
Click on Go there so the map goes to that planet

Press close twice to exit out of the Edit Empires Screen

With the Game Editor under Clear Items now select Erase Colony

Now click on the planet you dont want the homeworld to be on

Go back into Edit Empires , click colonies tab and you will see that the New Homeworld is the one you want.

To keep the change you will need to save the map as a new dwg file and open that map up every time you want to play Distant Worlds with the race at the new home world...other wise Distant Worlds will move the race to a random homeworld.

In order to not destroy the race, always add a new colony of that race to the new homeworld before removing the colony from the old homeworld.

When you start Distant Worlds and select a race to play it will automatically pick up the images from that race for ships, characters etc will be read from this folder. This works for the race you play as well as races played by the computer.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Distant Worlds Universe\Customization\The Return of Khan\images\units

"The Return of Khan" name being changed to whatever mod you are playing

If the homeworld type and location is acceptable to you, also be aware that you can change the name of the colony in either the colonies menu (select the colony in the menu, and there should be a box somewhere in the middle of the right-hand side of the menu that you can type in to change the name) or with the game editor (double-click the colony), and you can change the names of other bodies in the system using the editor. Changing the name of the star will change the system name as seen when you zoom out in the main view but will not automatically alter the names of planets in the system, so if you change the name of the Ackdar system to Calvin, Ackdar III will still be Ackdar III unless you manually change its name.
