Second Campaign with new Beta

Post by Ulle »

Axis Side, Beginner no Computer Bonus

Poland Campaign:
The Lufftwaffe is still quite useless, no Hits to one Hit.
On 18.11.39 Poland is conquered. ( Not very Historical)

Atlantic:
The U-Boot Weapon can not stopp the Convoys (although subs on the convoy line) to Great Britain, but there are not enough U-Boot`s for so many Destroyers (That By a weapon that was feared). The other Ships also do not much damage, but the British Ships hit hard. (Why are this Ships better?)

With 65 MMP`s at Start, i can not Produce enough Units ( That from a Land that secretly prepared for War).

Meanwhile, France can reinforce its units. I have notime enough MMP`s to do that, or can Research.

So there is no fun to play the Axis Side.

But I'll keep trying, befor i try the Allied Side.

I sort of agree with your points, but some of it gets better for me as I learn the game a little.

I will say that my early impression during my second game is that the Germans have little or no technical advantage. This may be because there are too many Research categories for me and I have yet to know what to do with it all. More experienced players would have a better grip on it.

Historically, the Germans had better everything but less of it.

June 1943 - My Level 3 German Infantry is fighting Level 3 Allied Infantry in Normandy and Russia. Both sides navies are at Level 1, but my U-Boats have Level 5. Both sides fighters are at Level 3. German tanks are at Level 5, Soviets are at 4, US at 2 [Yay !]. Worst of all is the Soviets being totally motorized. My poor Italians, they are behind in everything, which is typical and normal.

Of course, I expect all of this to improve with improved gameplay, once I actually know what I am doing.

Hi Ulle

The main aim of the Luftwaffe is to weaken key Polish units, rather than to inflict strength point losses on them.

Polish units at the start can be weakened in this way. For example, use the German Medium Bombers to bomb the Modlin Army and watch how its Morale, Readiness and Entrenchment all drop.

This will make it easier for your ground troops to attack it.

Alternatively, if your ground units attack first and remove Polish unit's Entrenchment, then your Tactical Bombers will tend to inflict more strength point losses on them.

Fighters shouldn't generally be used in a ground attack role.

Are you playing with Fog of War on?

Only the Allies shouldn't find it easy to hunt your ships and sink them under Fog of War. Though it does depend partially on how the Subs move, as it's best to perhaps Cruise and avoid going anywhere near the English Channel or UK itself.

It's also best not to stay in the same place on a convoy line, as the enemy will receive indications (marked with a "?") showing them where the last turn's raiding took place. Even moving just a few hexes each turn will help.

I also recommend starting to think of sailing back home once supply falls below 4 or 5.

I am trying to write some advice in the Manual for German naval moves, so appreciate all feedback as I'd like to make it as useful as possible.

Of course, if the consensus from all players, new and veteran, is that the balance is wrong then changes can be made there too. [:)]

I wouldn't worry too much about buying any new units in 1939 or early 1940, as they would be unlikely to arrive in time for the battle of France.

Germany starts with a chit invested in Heavy Tanks. Invest another and there is a very high chance you will have level 1 with time to upgrade your Tank units before invading France. This will help make them more deadly.

If you have any more MPPs to spare then possibly investing in Advanced Aircraft or Ground Attack Weapons too, but this isn't necessarily a recommendation on my part. If upgraded in time for the battle of France these would definitely help, but whether there is sufficient time is a good question.

I also recently added some more information to the 1939 Storm over Europe Strategy Guide which may help.

Just tried the 1.07 BETA and I have conquered Poland in three turns. I had achieved two turns with 1.06 and I think this is still possible with 1.07.

On the U-Boat front, I agree that the destroyers are still finding my boats easily even in Silent mode.
