Aerial mining, fixed device slot?

Post by Dili »

What mine model the game employs for aerial mining?

Does that mine is in a device slot and for that reason we should not move it from?

Okay let's try another way, what is the mine model employed by aerial mining mostly i guess done by B-29 in game?

IIRC it's the Mk13 for Allies & can't do it until sometime in 43 or something like that

Thanks.I know it is 43. To be on safe side probably have to preserve the slot of that mine.

Air minelaying probably works for any mine properly fitted to a level bomber.
And it appears not to work on the date of the device - but only after the
date stated in the manual: it appears to be hard code (an unfortunate choice).
It appears to work for both sides.

I don't see any plane with mine loads so that has also to be hardcoded, if so it appears to not need to be properly fitted to an aircraft. Do you see any mine load in B-29 cid?

Btw i already made a question regarding mine missions and Alfred said that any aircraft that can do city bombing can do minelaying, so does not need to a level bomber.

It is a guess that the number of mines can be related to the aircraft load, so it is even possible that if the mine is heavier than the load might not be possible to do the mission. Note that i am guessing.

It's not a device you really add to an a/c but assign a unit to city bombard & select mine laying just like you'd select HI, LI etc. & there's some formula based on a/c load that determines how many mines each a/c lays similar in function to how many supply pts a transport a/c brings is based on it's load IIRC or it's 1 mine per a/c (forget offhand)

I do NOT see a stock B-29 with mines. It may be the normal case is that mines are carried
when the mission is selected for a B-29. But it also appears that any bomber with a mine
device will deliver that device after the mine mission is enabled in hard code.

NEW IDEA: I bet you can drop mines ANY time, from ANY aircraft, if you select an appropriate
mission if you ALSO use a bomber with mines defined as bombs. This works for ASW weapons.
Need to test this hypothesis.

The mission surely would be port attack. If one can find a way to deliver mines as the
bomb in a bomber. Not sure that is possible. But often I find one can rename devices
and get the effect one wants from the engine. It has no idea what your name says,
it just knows what the device is? ASW torpedoes in RHS are really horizontal bombs
with a hit probability determined by the ASW weapon characteristics. The first generation
US ASW torpedo (called a mine during wartime) was so effective that (a) production was
scaled back and (b) it is still in service in some countries. There is no provision
for air-ASW weapons per se - but one can define them as forms of bombs.

I think this is correct as well.

I think el cid you can't launch ASW weapons as far as i know unless they are classified as a bomb. Mines are certainly hardcoded since i want the aircraft to continue to drop bombs on harbors putting a mine in their slots instead is not an option.

In my Med mod i preserved the Mk 13 slot, made it a generic aerial mine and available for both sides. Let's see how it goes.

Anyone tried to do mine launching with a Japanese bomber? Neeed to know if they drop them and if so what model it is.
