[BUG 1.07.02 resolved] hotfix did not correct frozen UI problem

Post by gwgardner »

ORIGINAL: Hubert Cater

- fixed a national morale bar toggle and mouse hover issue related to the strategic management button area.

It was hoped that the above 1.07.02 fix would correct the problem I'm seeing, wherein any scroll of the map causes the UI to freeze.

After applying the patch I have tried my native res 1680x1050 and then 1360x768, and the problem persists.

To clarify, this is the problem: any scroll of the map causes the UI buttons at top and sides, such as the 'research' or 'turn advance' buttons to be unresponsive. In order to get them to respond to a left-click, I have to first do a right-click anywhere on the map, or left click on an empty city or resource hex.

To me this is the single most annoying and frustrating problem with the UI. It essentially doubles the number of clicks that I have to make.

Noone else has this problem at all? To me it's 100% consistent. It occurs whether or not I have the national moral ribbons on.

[LATER] see my last post in this thread for 'resolution' of the problem.

Well, we had that earlier, but not now. I hate to say it but ... maybe remove and reinstall

When I had problems earlier playing the game at 1024x768 setting, I did experience some occasions where the Options and Quit buttons were unresponsive too.

As my PC thought that it was trying to win Gold in the scrolling Olympics, it does sound similar to your experience, with similar solutions too.

Now I know why noone else sees the problem.

I play with the advanced option 'hide text during map scroll' off. When I turn that option 'on,' the problem goes away.

Whether or not this remains a bug is a matter of game design. I personally think that even when the 'hide text' option is turned off, the UI should not freeze upon scrolling the map.

Never had the UI freeze on me. Game has been rock solid and never crashed nor stalled. Playing at 2560x1600
