someone reported hammering it with air strikes and shore bombardment till the force there was destroyed, then either using paratroopers or amphibious assault to take the island.

Ignore it, not worth the time or resources. The scale of the game makes Malta insignificant when compared what it takes to take it down.

As soon as you are done in France, move all your air units to Sicily, plus move one FJ unit there also. Then bomb the livin' daylights out of Malta. Two turns, maybe even one turn, the UK unit there will evaporate and the FJ's can swoop in for the cake.

Same strategy than in CEAW GS mod. Except that, CEAW GS has workaround the stacking limit by adding an airfield with a fighter group on it on an additional hexagon near the island. This is making much harder to conquer it.

Yes, learned it in CEaW, and after you get Malta you can send the Luftwaffe to Libya/Egypt for a few turns before Barbarossa [:D]

Having a German HQ present will aid with both supply and the success rate of the Luftwaffe attacks on the island.

I have tried several times and failed to take Malta. Not sure what others think but I believe it would make the game more interesting if invasion of Malta were easier. Perhaps it could be handled as an event similar to the invasion of Denmark or formation of the Afrika Corps

You must be doing something wrong, because believe me, its a gimme. Did you do what I posted in that screenshot above ? And trust me, what I show there is overkill.

I used two Rocket Units for loss free strategic bombardment to kill supply and two German TAC Bombers to damage the AA unit. All were HQ supported. I also kept one Italian ship by both Malta ports to prevent port supply. Malta supply dropped like a rock. Without supply, the AA unit can't be repaired. Eventually the AA unit was damaged down to total destruction. A German airborne dropped in once the Malta AA unit was destroyed.

No! Please!

No more scripted invasions.

I already have issues with just allowing players to spend MPPs to invade Denmark, Norway and Dakar. It takes away from some great areas of play.

I agree, I don't mind sripted invasion of norway and denmark that much, but it does give every game the same "pattern", any more scripted invasions and every game would almost always be the same.

I took Malta as well, but it took a lot of airpower and I used the Italian BB's to bombard it as well. Not sure if that contributed to it or not - but the British in North Africa stopped after taking Tobruk where before they always pushed on. Hmmmmm...
