Fuel status of a group

Post by Krupinski »

I asked this month ago: How can i get informations about the fuel status of units in a group?

This is a fundamental info so it has high priority for me.

Thanx :-)

The only system I know is switching to Unit View, then checking every single unit in the group

Right now you need to check them individually.

How would you suggest we display group fuel and account for different unit types?

Thanks

Pop down menu in the right (like for ROE, etc) that lists the unit and then shows it's bar. Perhaps a "closest unit to bingo: Ranger #4 1hr32min". From there the player could switch to unit view and get more information, but this gives a basic idea.

That would work. Either that or a pop up menu. When you click the fuel button a window opens centered on the main screen listing all the units. This would block most of your game screen but you would only open it for a couple seconds. You wouldn't have to scroll down/risk running out of space this way.

The Unit panel on the side is getting fairly full and long. Without being able to scroll it up and down, adding more to it would just compound the panel more IMHO.

As well as the brief view of 'total group fuel', with yellow bar for the fewest fuel of unit, and green bar for the most:

Or, two separated bars:

Great. Thanks for the great suggestions. Will point out to the big kahuna and see what he thinks! He's on a beach no getting his vitamin D.

Yes! Please implement a Group fuel status indicator, Mini Von's idea is perfect! This will greatly help me with Air Operations!

Also, perhaps for consideration down the line, perhaps a ring around a unit that shows how far it can go on its current fuel load, shrinking as fuel is consumed. The indie Nuclear war game DEFCON had this for its aircraft and i thought that was a great little feature.

This would be primarily for aircraft, and perhaps it just wouldn't be there for nuclear powered units. And to reduce clutter it would be off by default.

If a simpler solution is required, I'd even find just a simple total percentage readout useful, ie:"group has 76% fuel left".

Most times you are looking at groups of like units on the same mission, knowing that a CAP has 50% total fuel left, whilst not a full breakdown, would still be useful to see at a glance.

Mini Von and Dysta are exactly what I was thinking. Maybe Dysta's combined one when not expanded and Mini Von's when expanded. Minimizes clutter on the right while still letting you expand it for the full details.

If you switch to unit view, a fuel bar is displayed below each unit symbol?
