Not so closet. I've been a SF fan in general since I was a teen (mostly written) and I grew up watching ST on channel 13 in Los Angeles. I liked Rodenbury's vision of a future that was generally better than what existed at the time of the show. Rick Berman is a dystopian and I think it was his focus on the negative that eventually drove the Trekkies/Trekkers away from the franchise.

There is a fan group that has been making their own Trek episodes for over a decade now. The budget is miniscule compared to what Paramount has at its disposal for production and their rate of production is low, but I think they adhere to Rodenbury's vision better.

When polecats sense danger, they retreat with tails held high, and heaven help you if you are in the line of fire from their hind parts. Gorns, when frightened, drop their tails entirely, in a subterfuge intended to confuse their pursuers. I cannot count on my clawlets the number of tails I've lost in that fashion. Suffice it to say that we gorn need a diet high in protein in order to reconstitute our tails.

Gorns, while cold-blooded, fear many things, including bright orange balls in the firmament. Additionally, our scermatologists, (dermatologists for those of you without scales) advise us to stay out of sunlight as it may cause our hides to become more green than they already are.

Eventually, as they flourished, their requirements became difficult to meat. Being quite clever, the minister invited some of his vegetarian acquaintances to worship with him one Sunday.
