Planet Facilities Guide?

Post by Dereck »

Is there any guide around which explains planetary facilities and what can - and cannot - be built together on a planet?

I'm asking because it seems if I have a planet with a Military Academy on it I cannot build a Cloning Facility there too.

I'd like to have a guide of what may cause another facility to not be able to be built, etc.

Thanks

Have you looked at the Empire policy file to see if ColonyAllowFacilityCloningFacility is set to Y...I note there is also a number value for ColonyFacilityPopulationThresholdCloningFacility and what is the current population number of the colony world.

I'm pretty sure that the only facilities which are mutually exclusive are the three that provide special types of infantry - the Cloning Facility, Troop Academy, and Robotic Foundry.

I suspect that the reason why they're mutually exclusive is that there are five buttons available for ordering new ground units in the main window and seven possible types of ground units - standard infantry, armored, special forces, planetary defense, clone infantry, elite infantry, and robotic infantry units. If you want to ensure that no more than five types of units can be recruited from a single world (because that's the number of buttons you have available), and you have four varieties of infantry, three of which come from facilities, and then one variety of each of three other types of units, making the facilities for the varieties of infantry mutually exclusive doesn't look like that bad a solution.

That said, if you'd really like to have more than one special type of infantry available for recruitment at a single world, it appears as though adding the facilities using the game editor doesn't cause any issues. If there are buttons available, all three special infantry types will get their own buttons. If not enough buttons are available, then you'll need to go to the Troops tab of the Colony window, select the troop type from the drop-down list, and recruit them that way; there may also be a way to do this through the Troops menu.

Sometimes you don't have the option of building a facility while another facility is being constructed (may be a bug). This is especially true for some of the wonders, so it may be true for some of the troop facilities as well. All I know is, sometimes I choose to build a facility on the planet, and while that facility is being built, a lot of choices disappear from the list of available facilities. However, once is is finished the choices become available again.

I typically don't worry too much about it (for the reasons Aeson gave above). Once you researched Cloned Troops, you probably only want that facility on most of your troop building planets, leaving Elite troop building at a selected few.
