BloodyBill first impressions

Post by BloodyBill76 »

I was able to take a quick look at the game tonight. I unfortunately do not have a lot of time for this post but here it is so far.

The game looks wonderful!
I do wish there was one more zoom level.
Game so far is nice and smooth, been fun so far.
I would like the map moving to be a little smoother.

My only issues I found so far was Italian units missing from the bases.

I never did play the older version of the game so I am seeing it all new for the first time. I think the game is layed out very nice. With a little looking into the manual it is a complicated game that is easy to grasp the basics of. I am completely enjoying the campaign so far.

I had a crash pushing the reinforce button one time and it has not happened again. I hope to provide more info with pics as soon as I am done moving to my new house.

Zooming in or out?
My only issues I found so far was Italian units missing from the bases.

Zoom out 1x and they will be there. They are German placeholder units though.

One more zoom level in.

Thanks for the tip on zooming out to see the units.

I would also like to have one more zoom level in. I use resolution 2560x1440 and some details are hardly readable at this resolution. Also the grid can hardly be seen. Maybe it can be made a little thicker.

Yeah I agree on zoom levels, having one more zoom in but it would also be nice to have one between the max zoom out and the middle one with more emphasis on frontlines, pockets and bigger cities, right now the biggest map is too big to show pockets and the middle one show a bit too much stuff. Would be nice to have one between those when you just want to look around your empire but still want some details about frontlines, pockets and major cities..

After playing for a while I am really enjoying the game. There are a few things I would like improved or have questions about. 1). I would love to see a zoom level that is one more level zoomed in.

My question is how does the AI Navy handle fow? I have been messing with different fleets to send out into the ocean and the allied AI never seems to have a problem finding them and always has just the right ships to thrash them. I send one lone sub out in the middle of nowhere and the AI will send two destroyers to kill it. If I have a fleet of 8 ships of assorted kind the AI finds them and always has a massive fleet. I even took all ships Germany has and snuck them into the Atlantic...I think I had 12 or 14 ships and the AI came and killed it. My ships were no place near a trade route and I sent them to the bottom of the map as far away as possible form the Allies and they seem to of gathered a fleet and went straight for me. I believe the AI just know where your ships are at least that is how it seems.

Hi Bill!

There is one thing you can do that always helped in my games: never stay at one place for longer than one turn. The AI "notices" your location at the end of its turn, so if you move in your turn, it cannot do anything.
A good place for battling the Royal Navy is near Narvik (after Barbarossa started). Usually the AI send DDs and Cruisers up there, so you can easily sink these with your BBs and CCs. Usuallly when my games versus the Allied AI end in late 1942, half of the RN is gone and I haven't lost a ship.

As far as i know the AI can look deeper into the FOW than a human player can. But I might be wrong on this one.

Poster when U.S. enters the war the American flags are wrong. They should be hanging with the blue field to the left.
