Nice ground battles. It's good to see the AI building the fortress and the ion cannon.

As far as economy goes, don't fret about it. The AI doesn't use money well. For example the AI doesn't boost research. They will always build a ton of troops, but the AI won't always build ships even though it can. So the AI tends to stockpile cash (UEII cash bonuses are high too), which means nothing unless they spend it. I like it this way, but I can see why some don't.

In both my immediately previous game and this one as well, I noticed that AI did not initially place Planetary Shields on colonies, but that later on it certainly does, at least the more powerful AI empires do.

I hear what you are saying about AI and economy, I just want to add that again more powerful AI empires are putting out a boatload of ships as well as troops... at present, I am hoping something good comes of my Virus researches. I can foresee potential future where WMD is the only thing that pulls my fat out of the fire.
