If the Allies hold Ledo, Warazup, Myitkyina, Bhamo. Paoshan, and Tsuyung will 500 supply a day flow into Tsuyung?

If the answer is yes, the Allies will immediately march the following units into China to in an attempt to secure Paoshan and Tsuyung: the 119th RAF BF, the 268th Motorized Armor Brigade, the 11th Chindit Brigade, the 77th Chindit Brigade, and the 87th Mountain Regiment.

I don't think so.

I'm pretty sure the Burma Road bonus needs a road connection to work.

Thank you for responding.

The manual states in part, "...if a rail/road/trail path free of Japanese units between Tuyung and Ledo...can be traced..."

If a road or rail connection is required, why even mention Ledo as there isn't a rail or road all the way between Tsuyung and Ledo?

However, I don't see a trail either.

Tsuyung to Rangoon has a rail/road connection, but not Ledo.

El Lobo launched three airstrikes in China. One Sally was damaged and there wasn't a single Chinese casualty.

The three airstrikes were the only combat actions of the day.

For the second day in a row, El Lobo suffers heavy losses.

Allied B-24s inflict serious damage to three Japanese DDs, a few xAKs, and several xAPs at Trincomalee.

Allied Anti-Aircraft Guns destroy 25 Oscars near Shwebo.

I hope, considering the damage incurred by his ships at Trincomalee, that El Lobo will decide to vacate Ceylon prior to capturing Trincomalee. However, knowing El Lobo as I do, the good money is on El Lobo dedicating more Zeros to Trincomalee, either in the form of placing his carriers close by or by landing more Zero Squadrons on Ceylon.

Lastly, El Lobo stepped-up the number of aircraft he normally sends to bomb Chungking every single day. I am guessing that the pressure the Allies are putting on Burma has El Lobo concerned that the Allies will break-through Burma into China and save the Chinese at Chengtu and Chungking. Accordingly, El Lobo is throwing all he has at chungking!

Opening Note

The following is a report on the present status of Burma and Allied tactics to capture Burma.

The present plan is to surround and trap as many Japanese units in Burma as possible. The Allies hope to cut off supply and destroy as many Japanese units as possible.

The troop movements indicated in the following, if prudent and reasonable, may vary pursuant to future circumstances and events.

Along with the ground forces indicated as follows, those ground forces are supported by Headquarter units, Base Forces, and Anti-Aircraft units. The bulk of artillery and armor are attached to either I Australia Corps or the Americal Infantry Division.

Lastly, I will provide the latest intelligence regarding Japanese strength in the subject area.

The Burma Road

The Japanese have one unit two hexes East of Lashio and the fifth Infantry Brigade is believed to be located at Kunming. It is believed that Paoshan is not garrisoned, but that Tsuyung is garrisoned with one unit.

The 87th Mountain Regiment, 77th Chindit Brigade, 111th Chindit Brigade, and 268th Motorised Brigade are strung out between Myitkina and one hex East of Lashio. These troops are presently moving to Paoshan and then on to Tsuyung to open the Burma Road.

Please note the following:

The Chinese have cut the road for supply flowing from the West to Kuniming, Tsuyung, and Paoshan. Further, the Chinese unit just to the North of Tsuyung is 4 movement points from being in the hex next to Tsuyung.

Lashio

Six Japanese units are located at Lashio.

The 24th and and 25th U. S. Army Infantry Divisions are moving to surround Lashio.

Katha

The 41st U. S. Army Infantry Division is at Katha acting as a reserve division but is also moving toward Taung Gyi. The path of the 41st will take them through Meiktila.

Shwebo

Thirteen Japanese units are located at Shwebo.

The 27th and 32nd U. S. Army Infantry Divisions are moving to surround Shwebo.

Mandalay

Four Japanese units are located at Mandalay.

For now, the Allies will bypass Mandalay.

Meiktila

Japanese strength unknown.

The U. S. Army Americal Infantry Division supported by a dozen artillery units is one hex NE of Shwebo. The Americal Division is moving to attack Meiktila.

Four U. S. Army Tank Battalions and three U. S. Army Tank Destroyer Battalions are one hex West of Shwebo (a fourth Tank Destroyer Battalion is straggling behind and is presently one day away from moving to Katha). These armor units will move with the Americal Division and accompanying artillery to attack Meiktila.

Magwe

Three Japanaese units are located at Magwe.

The 40th U. S. Infantry Division is two hexes West of Shwebo and is moving to attack Magwe.

Toungoo

Japanese Strength unknown.

One-half of the Burma Corps is one hex East of Magwe. The 1st and 2nd Burma Brigades are moving Southeast down the road to assist in surrounding the Japanese located one hex East of Ramree Island. The 63rd Indian Brigade will remain in this hex one hex East of Magwe to block Japanese movement North or East. The balance of these units are moving to attack Toungoo.

2 Hexes West of Magwe

The other half of the Burma Corps is in the jungle two hexes Wet of Magwe. These units will remain in place to block Japanese movement North along the road leading toward Akyab.

Upon clearing the Japanese out of the hex one hex East of Ramree Island, these Burma Corps units will move to capture Bassein (Japanese strength at Bassein is unknown).

1 hex NE of Ramree Island

These units are stragglers (mostly artillery units) of III India Corps and I Australia Corps. These units are moving to join the balance of III India Corps and I Australia Corps presently located one hex East of Ramree Island.

1 Hex East of Ramree Island

Six Japanese units are located one hex East of Ramree Island.

The bulk of III Indian Corps and I Australian Corps and all of the Eastern Army are located in the Japanese front yard one hex East of Ramree Island.

III India Corps' 44th Indian Brigade and I Australian Corps' Auckland (Mtd) Armor Rifles Regiment is moving South down the road in an attempt to complete the surrounding of the six Japanese units one hex East of Ramree Island.

Upon the retreat or destruction of the Japanese units in this hex:

III India Corps will move to capture Prome (Japanese strength at Prome is unknown).

I Australia Corps will move to surround and trap Rangoon (Japanese strength at Rangoon is unknown) and Pegu (Japanese strength at Pegu is unknown).

The Eastern Army (supported by armor and artillery loaned from I Australia Corps) will move to capture Ramree Island (six Japanese units are located at Ramree Island).

The Japanese launched ten airstrikes today: Eight against Chungking, one against Chengtu, and one against Shwebo. One Sonia was destroyed and ten were damaged, seven Sallys were damaged, and two Ann's were damaged. The Allies suffered a total of 109 casualties. One squad was destroyed and 41 were disabled.

For the first time in over a year at war with Japan, Japanese troops are forced to retreat.

I tip my hat to El Lobo, the Evil Emperor of Japan, for he is squared away in Burma.

El Lobo has dedicated substantial ground forces and aircraft to the defense of Burma. He has dug-in at the main cities connected by major roads and railways, thereby forcing the Allies to attack him in the cities or to be pounded by his aircraft in an effort to go around and surround those major cities (i.e., Shwebo, Mandalay, Meikilta, and Magwe). On the West Coast of Burma, he digs-in at Ramree Island and one hex East of Ramree Island. In Eastern Burma, he digs-in at Lashio.

Today, El Lobo's aircraft pounded the Allies in Burma.

The good news is that the Allies have fourteen AA units just with the seven U.S. Army Infantry Divisions. The AA units are destroying Japanese aircraft. Further, the Allies are forcing Japan to expend supply in Burma, and in China.

The Allies intend to continue to take a pounding from Japanese aircraft as the Allies move to surround Shwebo, Mandalay, Meikilta, Magwe, Lashio, Ramree Island, and the hex East of Ramree Island. The Allies will move into the hex East of Ramree Island and pound the Japanese with armor and artillery, and wait for the Japanese supply to dwindle (that is if El Lobo does not retreat before the Allies can surround the Japanese in that jungle hex). The Allies main goal is not solely to push the Japanese out of Burma, but rather to trap and destroy as many Japanese units as possible.

PBY Catalinas sank two Japanese xAKs today, put three hits on Japanese SS I-23, and heavily damaged another Japanese xAK. The Japanese sunk an Allied xAKL. Japanese CLs bombarded Madras, damaging several Mitchell Bombers.

The following Combat Report is long, but I wanted everyone to be able to see how many aircraft El Lobo has in Burma.

Christmas Eve was a busy day.

There were numerous airstrikes launched by both the Japanese and the Allies.

Rather than post the numerous air combat strikes for Burma and China, I will provide a summary of the losses by geographical area.

The balance of the Combat Report will be posted, including a couple more airstrikes, one at Trincomalee and one from Wake Island that set fire to and heavily damaged a Japanese AV. Further a Japanese submarine took three hits today. Lastly ground combat at Adak Island and in China will be posted.
