So, what you need to do is your post-mortem, for your self. Where/When/How could you save 2M - 4M supply to carry you through to '46?

You did a great job getting to 10/45 ... now figure out how you extend to 5/46? +6 months is a LONG time at this point in the game and you know how much you burn HI and supply at this point ...

Right. Although I don't know if it's that simple. The burn rate of supply from strategic bombing is huge, and Mike didn't even utilize it to its maximum. Conserving supply is one option, another is spending more early to try and stave off the HI onslaught for longer, if doing so is possible.

I would also be curious as to how much the ground combat against the Soviets on the HIs contributed. It might be more support for a decapitating strike earlier if such a thing can be achieved.

Well the fat lady is singing.

Supply has run out except for 3 bases on the Home Islands. Tokyo is out cold and the whole air defence network which has put up a sterling performance has literally collapsed. About 150 Japanese merchant ships have been sent to the bottom of the ocean in three days, as the slaughter commences in earnest.

There is no where to run or hide but stand in place and take it on the chin[:D] ( I was going to use another analogy but I don't think it is appropriate on our G rated forum.

I am still laying claim to the bloodiest PBEM in history though!!!!

The Emperor will no doubt make his nation wide address tomorrow.

To illustrate the scale of punishment being meted out, in 12 days Mike has whacked on 14K VP now that the skies are largely clear. [X(]

If the skies are clear, how in the world did you shoot down near 300 Allied planes losing only 5 of your own?

LOL, good point. He stopped the sweeps this turn and just let loose with everything across the Home Islands. The three bases with supply Osaka, Yokohama and Ominato (all crammed full of fighters) plus KB took a heavy toll of USN aircraft.

In return though the damage the massed airstrikes did combined with the Soviets devastated a number of bases, burnt cities and wipe out scores of merchant ships. The number of VPs he has gained through the destruction of merchant shipping including tankers around Kobe/ Osaka has been off the grid. [X(]

Good points guys. I am concerned as savelius2 has pointed out that if strat bombing was more aggressively pursued the supply situation would have likely worsened. In saying that, it would have meant the 4Es would not have been crushing my positions in China, Manchuria and Korea. A different approach in this new game from Jeff will probably confirm a number of key lessons learnt or perhaps not.[:)]

TBH I think Jeff chose the approach he did because he thought it would be more fun, not because it was a better strategy. I think he has something against strategic bombing, probably because he wanted the game last longer among other reasons. And he might get more pleasure in smashing troops than smashing factories. Though personally I think smashing industry is even more fun than killing troops :)

Hi all, the wonderful journey has come to an end on 1st November 45.

The digital servants of the Empire could no longer stand the pummelling and the VP score finally ticked over.

As stated multiple times throughout the AAR Mike (wargmr)was a fabulous opponent and a true gentleman. That now completes two games into 45 for us both with never a dispute but plenty of humour. [:D]

I will update with some final scores over the next week.

It was a blast to follow. Thanks for taking all the time to document your PBEM and providing such an entertaining game to follow.

Your contest continues to prove why a game that started in 2004 and updated in 2009 still stay as popular.
