First Impressions

Hello all

Glad to be part of the team, thank you [:)]

I have fairly in depth experience with most of the SC2 games, both single player and multiplayer. I particularly enjoy the Assault on Democracy expansion for Global Conflict.

I'm playing at 1920 x 1080 on a 23" monitor, v1.00.08

The game is very familiar in feel to previous versions with the most obvious difference being the ability to move, attack and move again. Great feature and not easily mastered so far.

Hardly noticed the change to hexes [;)]

I jumped straight in and started an Axis campaign on intermediate and no bonus after a couple of trial runs taking Poland. I tend to take Poland and France asap then take out Yugoslavia before preparing for Barbarossa, ignoring pretty much everything else.

Poland fell after turn 3

Love the event that allowed me to take Norway

France fell July 1940
Yugoslavia fell Nov 1940

The British attacked in the desert, as usual I left the Italians to do their best. Was surprised and most pleased when an event allowed the formation of the Afrika Korps

Invaded Russia in May 1941
Cairo fell in October 1941
Leningrad fell in December 1941, just before the winter turn.
Rostov fell in April 1942
Stalingrad fell in September 1942 - At this time I'd advanced to level 5 fighters!
Moscow fell in early 1943, the Allies conceded February 1943

The game was a blast to play with few problems encountered. I did experience some crashes when my subs bumped into Allied ships, I hope the log attached refers to this. I managed to reload to avoid the issue and it didn't happen again.

I felt the research was easier than in SC2, the Italians had industrial level 5 by October 1942 and the Germans had most of the research complete by game end. I love to advance so it's not a complaint, just an observation.

AI:

The French abandoned the Maginot Line after I bypassed it.

The British and US were quite inactive apart from their Navies, no invasions, little strategic bombing and some ineffective Tac bombing.

I did run into quite a few US troop transports in the Atlantic, just North of the Azores, not sure what they were doing there.

In North Africa the British defended poorly, sometimes with aircraft getting caught at the front. Rommel had little trouble advancing steadily.

The defence of Russia was better, with FOW on it's hard to know how well. They did conduct a lot of spoiling attacks that would then leave themselves vulnerable. The odd HQ got caught in the front line but nothing terrible.

I did notice a British Battleship near the Faroe Islands, is this because of spotters on the islands?

UI:

The map is great.

I found the rain hard to see.

The units were hard to read at first(especially the upgrades). Got easier as I got more familiar with the game.

Missed having the national morale on the top screen.

Overall a great experience and very enjoyable

Hi

Thanks for the feedback! [:)]

Quick question on the above, was this your only focus of Italian research or did you do well in other areas too?

It seems technically possible to achieve this, but generally I would have thought at the expense of other research areas?

Hi Bill

Unfortunately I can't post images yet.

Both Italy and Germany had industrial technology of 5 in November 1942.

Italy had:
Infantry weapons at 2
Advanced Aircraft at 1.5
Artillery at 1
Ground attack at 1
AA at 2
C&C at 1
Infantry warfare at 1
Aerial warfare at 1
Naval warfare nearly 1
Spying at 2
Logistics at 2.5
Industrial at 5

Fairly balanced [:)]

I forgot to mention that I had the Russian navy bug in the hex between Nikolayev and Kherson in the Black Sea
