El Lobo continues to launch several airstrikes in Burma and in China. The Allies defended with "Sweeps" in Burma, don't have any operational aircraft in China, and launched several airstrikes against the Trincomalee Airfield.

The Japanese attacked Allied ground forces at Colombo.

A few days of bombardments you might try another deliberate attack and once the forts are zero go for shock attack.

I have had the forts reduced three times. I keep building the fort Level back-up. It is Level 1 now, but I am hoping to have it built back to Level 2 prior to his next attack. He has taken some heavy losses the last two days. Accordingly, I am hoping that he isn't in any shape to attack again for several days.

Known Japanese Strength in Burma

Due to ground combat one hex East of Ramree Island and one hex Southeast of Magwe, and from aircraft bombing strikes, some of the units of Japan are know by their military designation. The identified units can be seen by reading back a few posts in this AAR. Besides the Japanese ground forces set forth below, intelligence indicates that the Japanese 52nd Infantry Division is loading on transports bound for Rangoon.

Lashio: 7 units (17,340 Troops, 129 Guns, 0 AFV).
Shwebo: 15 units (46,880 Troops, 412 Guns, 219 AFV).
Mandalay: 12 units.
Magwe: 16 units.

16 separate airstrikes were launched today; 9 by the Japanese and 7 by the Allies. 7 of the Japanese airstrikes were against the 2nd King Own LYI Battalion near Toungoo. 4 of the Allied airstrikes were against the Japanese at Colombo. The Japanese had a total of 23 aircraft damaged. The Allies had 7 aircraft destroyed and 22 damaged.

A Japanese submarine put a torpedo into an Allied submarine.

There was one ground combat.

Ship damage is most likely to spread just after it occurs, so getting into a port to stabilize the flooding, pump out the minor flood damage and reduce the system damage is the best course of action. The bigger the port, the more damage can be repaired in a turn, but you risk the ship/sub by trying to go too far. IMO patience is the best plan- get into the nearest port and reduce what you can. Only move when flood is as low as possible and system damage is below 25 - preferably below 10.

So Dutch Harbor is 3/3 Port, 10 hexes away and Cold Bay is 1/1 14 hexes away...

Two problems: Adak might very well fall to the enemy; if so rescuing my stranded sub may prove untenable. Cold Bay at least he just might be safe until the ARD comes along, in about 12 months. If CB can handle an ARD, that is.

The second problem is my difficulty in forming a TF with a ship that has repaired to, say, 10 SYS and 15 FLT; how do you "force" them out of their repair berth after days and weeks of the Operational Report saying nothing more can be done at DH/CB/wherever, and they do not appear on the TF component selection page?

If the sub has been stood down for repairs, you put it back in "Readiness" mode and it will appear in the "Ships in Port" screen, but will be greyed out - which indicates it will take up to 3 days to get it ready to sail again. Once it is no longer greyed out, you should be able to put it in a Sub Transport TF (see Alfred's recent post on the main forum or War Room or Tech Support where someone was asking about damaged subs disbanding themselves again). Set the TF to Cruise Speed only.

But why are you in a hurry to get to Cold Bay? Is Dutch Harbour also under attack?

Naturally, as usual, El Lobo launched several airstrikes in Burma and in China.

However, in Burma, he concentrated all of his aircraft to strike the Burma Corps one hex Northwest of Toungoo. I suspect that he is concerned about the Allies cutting off his Northern troops from his Southern troops as the Burma Corps is threatening to capture Toungoo. He has also moved some ground forces from Northern bases to strengthen Magwe and Toungoo.

The Japanese took a brutal beating at Chungking suffering over 34,000 casualties with hundreds of squads being destroyed.

BB—thank you for this insight. Methods seem to be always available, but they are sometimes difficult to understand right off. I appreciate your help, mate!

Interesting that you mention Cruise Speed. Most of my subs automatically go to Mission Speed, and to be honest, I can't detect any difference in endurance costs. Why cruise over mission?

The answer to your question regarding Dutch Harbor is a weighted one. If El Lobo wants Adak—and apparently he does—he's going to get it. And when he gets it he's going to put planes on it and bomb nearby bases. So I figure a disabled sub in air range might be toast.

However, Grayling only moved 3 hexes last turn. It will take 3-4 turns to even reach DH, much more to arrive in Cold Bay. So DH is looking like the only choice, although we had a very slight improvement in FLT, from 60 to 59.

But the truth is that the calm, sane tone of your questions made me reconsider DH even before I knew the latest situation. I tend to lose it sometimes and panic, and you talked me & Grayling off the ledge, so to speak[:D]
