Aircraft torpedoes missing

Post by colt6900 »

I cannot get aircraft torpedoes supplied to populate, I've gone to all headquarters that have the torpedo device option,

I have set them to 20 up to 120 but after four or five turns I have no torpedoes populated?

All sites have from double to 10 times supplies required for both land-based and Island-based headquarters.

I have read the manual where ever I can find torpedoes listed but I see no solution?

Hi colt6900, The aircraft using the torps have to be based at the same base with the HQ with torps. If the aircraft are not at the same base, they will not be able to use torps. Also, the aircraft have to be capable of using torps. Hope this helps....GP

It doesn't need to be in the same base; it has to be within the HQ command radius.

Colt6900: what is the group's mission ? "naval attack?"
did you try to manually get them? simply click the button, and enter "20"

This is not correct.  It is becoming quite tiresome the number of times I have to come in and correct wrong advice.

To the OP.

It is a two step process to get the relevant HQs to maintain a torpedo inventory.

(A)  Set up the inventory

1.  Click on the HQ's TOE button.
2.  On the TOE screen, the "torpedo ordnance" will be in yellow.  Click here to take you to the unit torpedo inventory screen.
3.  On the torpedo inventory screen you can type in increments of 20 torpedoes.  Best to specify a minimum inventory of 100 torpedoes.

(B)  Maintain the inventory

1.  On the HQ screen, toggle the replacements to be on
2.  Ensure the base at which the HQ is on, has sufficient supply on hand to purchase torpedoes for restocking the inventory.
3.  The purchase cost is 20 supply points per torpedo.

Aircraft equipped with torpedoes do not have to be collocated with an HQ which maintains a torpedo inventory.  It suffices to be within range of the relevant HQ.

Section 7.2.1.10.2.2 of the manual deals with land based torpedo supply.

Almost as tiresome as your lapses in etiquette. If you don't feel like answering don't complain about it and answer. Do or do not, there is no try.

Thanks to Alfred I finally got some torpedoes, to help others in the future that might be confused I will clarify, the two things that were confusing was that if you type in anything in to torpedo device without it being in TOE view the numbers you put in torpedo ordinance do nothing. It doesn't make any sense to let you type in something in that field if it is not going to have any effect in the game, so maybe it's a bug, In the manual it doesn't say you have to be in Toe. The easiest thing to remember is that the torpedo device has to be in yellow in order for your numbers to do anything. Secondly what you're typing in in the torpedo device field is the points you're spending four torpedoes not the number of torpedoes you want, it's 20 points for each torpedo so for 100 torpedoes its 2,000 points unless I made a mistake somewhere.

The other thing is you have to have 5 to 10 times the base supply requirement in points in order to purchase any torpedoes it seems. This varies on airfields size, smaller fields have to spend more points in order to purchase the same amount of torpedoes.

I've never added to the Torpedo Ordnance on the Air HQ TOE screen. I never knew that was available. I just added to the Torpedo Ordnance value on the Unit Values screen, and I've never had any trouble with appropriate airgroups using the torpedoes. It appears that Alfred's Step A is somewhat optional. It does mean the HQ will automatically restock torpedoes so you don't have to manually add torpedoes as they are consumed.

The number you type is the Torpedo Ordnance field is definitely the number of torpedoes requested, not the supply cost.

The supply cost for adding torpedoes to an Air HQ is 10 points per torpedo, not 20. At least, when I add 20 torpedoes to the HQ, the base supply goes down by 200 points, and if I add 10 torpedoes, supply goes down by 100 points. It's possible, I suppose, that the supply cost is 20 points per torpedo if you set a value in the TOE and let the HQ automatically restock torpedoes, but if that is the case I'll just continue manually restocking torpedoes.

The supply cost to add torpedoes to an Air HQ does not depend on the size of the airbase at the HQ's location. The airgroup will expend supplies from the location at which it is based when it flies a torpedo attack mission, and that supply cost may vary depending on the airbase size.

Patience, Alfred, patience. I know it can be difficult at times. As a secondary task to my duties I became a trainer, both formally and informally, for much of my career. Yes, I too lost it at times. I doubt anyone here is attempting to give out misinformation. I'm a late comer, for various reasons, to the game. I have not made responses to many inquires here because I don't have the knowledge. Now I have gotten sooooo!!! much assistance here that I for one feel a need to give back. Yep, I have been wrong again at times. Not my intent[:-], and that's why I appreciate it when you step in and correct me. I at least rely of folks like you on this site to help me get the game right. Both technically and in my mind. Thank you.[&o][&o][&o]

With a "real life" going on in my world...even this plankowner of Uncommon Valor and the original WITP did not know torpedo planes could get torps from a HQ without being in the same hex.

I love this forum and those who are in it who are willing to freely give of their time to help we "ignorant dolts"...LOL

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the way Alfred answered. I really don't know what is wrong with a small few people on here(internet) who cannot read anything without being offended. He was not talking to you to begin with he was replying to someone who gave BAD info. Something that has been happening more and more lately.Don't believe me do a little research, almost 3 or 4 times a week BAD info is being given out by people who have been here for a long time. Been coming here for over 6 years and we have lost some very experienced and knowledgeable players/Devs because people pushed them away because they didn't agree with their tone. This is something I really don't understand as we have to guess on the tone and delivery. If people are being rude (calling names thing like that), harassing that kind of behavior call them out complain all you want, but when people start getting offended by tone and have to read into things to find fault with people that in my own humble opinion is wrong. I love this game , love this forum but too much info is being lost or just plain wrong. Off my soapbox and back to hiding in the shadows.

You hit the nail.

I will always fail to understand how people can critizise somebody who is around for so long for getting annoyed about the number of half baked replies to questions that look helpful to a new player on first glance but are simply wrong or bad advice.
