Jumpy map

Post by xwormwood »

Quite often the map "jumps" one hex while you move your units.

Could you please fix the map until I either start to scroll or to click on a far away unit?

Not sure when the map starts to jump, all I know is that it does, and that I'm no friend of this behaviour.

Yes, extremely frustrating. I attack with a unit and the map seems to then flick one hex just as I was about to click the next unit and I often end up moving the unit that attacked to that hex.

I've noticed that when I select a new unit sometimes, but not always, the map jumps and that's led to my moving units where I didn't want them to go or to attack the wrong place. It seems to happen more when I click near the sides of the screen.

Ok, from all I know the jump happens like this.

While coming from a friendlich unit, you click on another friendly unit which still have action points to spend.
So, you click on the new unit AND you move your mouse cursor a bit - and that is when the map jumps.
This has to be corrected, because it will destroy games where the "un-do" button has been disabled. It hurs fast players quite a bit, as they may have already clicked, realizing to late the jump of the map. So they will mis-click. The other important reason to fix it that the unsteady jumpy map is a pain to look at, and the game flow will be stopped each and every time, as you have to adjust to the new map position (that is where your cursor will be).

I guess the game engine tries to center the view, causing the map view to move.

I have accidentally moved aircraft because the map jumped while I was selecting another unit. Can be disruptive.

I was wondering what you guys were talking about. Now I see it, thanks for the description of how to get it to happen.

I guess I'm stating the obvious here - it's a feature that you can drag the map, and that is what is happening.

So let's disable map dragging because nobody uses it and it causes these types of issues ?

You're right! Well done! [:)]

It is indeed a feature, even though a feature from hell.

Hubert, please, disable the dragging AS LONG AS THE MOUSE CURSOR IS ON A UNIT.
Or use a different way to start the dragging process, like with a double click.

I've got so unbelievable often annoyed (and sometimes even angry because of all the mis-clicks) because of this feature, that I would like to yell at the person who is responsible for this.

In your case I would like to invite you to a beer or ice cream right after the yelling. Just for all the good work, and in this case for the surely well ment intention.

But - it - is - a - bitch if you don't know about it. And even after you know what triggers it, all you think about it is how to get rid of it. At least in my case.
