This Game Sucks

Post by Dereck »

Every game I have played when I set the options up I have chosen NO SPACE MONSTERS.

Yet EVERY game I have to deal with them. One person said to not use any of the story events so I didn't.

Yet, I'm not even out of my system and not 3 years into this new game and I have had to deal with THREE sand slugs when I don't want to have to deal with any frigging slugs at all.

WHY HAVE THE DAMN OPTION TO TURN OFF THE MONSTERS IF IT DOESN'T WORK?????

I asked this before and I'll ask this again: is there a config file that I need to go into to edit to get rid of these damn things?

It seems turning off the story lines have made this problem even worse than before.

Hi Derek-

Dude, you are proudly a US Navy vet... please deal with adversity better than this. [8D]

I don't want to deal with adversity - I WANT THIS DAMN GAME TO WORK THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO.

I turned off space monsters so I shouldn't have space monsters.

I've had to deal with them 7 times already.

I may be wrong but if you play with any of the story events ticked then you will get monsters as monsters are part of the story events.
Try unticking story events and see how you go

If you are lucky enough to get the planet with Korabbian spice ( a super luxury) then that plaent ALWAYS has slugs, regardless of settings. Its a DUNE reference I believe. Other than that, there should be no monsters.

Everyone is playing the game just fine, except for you. A lot of people have tried to help you on the forum. I for one don't want to try anymore.

Maybe a different game is in order?

Hi Dereck,

If you own a Korabbian Spice planet (should be a Dune-planet reference and look-alike), these worms will spawn from them constantly. What you need is to put a Defense station next to it with sufficient capabilities to dispatch it before it can cause your stations harm.

The bad news is: you can't turn this off. The good news is: these planets are worth the hassle.

Cheers!

To be fair to the OP it would be nice if the button labelled "no space monsters" actually did what it said on the tin. That said, the fact that it doesn't (entirely) is really an incredibly minor and insignificant idiosyncrasy in an otherwise surprisingly brilliant game, certainly not a reason for saying the entire game sucks.

For a game made by only one person, DW is an amazing achievement. You only have to look at other space strategy games like Stellaris or MOOCTS or Polaris Sector to see how much, much worse it can - and does - get. The DW dev seems to be about the only person on the planet with even a clue how to design a good space 4x.

Yes, exactly. I can tell you that a lot of testing goes into this game a small thing like this is not a deal breaker....GP

Like has been said desert planets with korabbian spice spawn sandworms no matter what the settings are. The good news is they only stay at that one planet and are no threat to an established space station once you get enough firepower to instagib them when they appear. Given the op's post count and register date I think he already knew that too and is just having some troll fun. [:'(]

I also considered it weird to have space slugs when set to "no creatures" but I considered it a minor thing. Still, after reading this thread I decided to see if I could eliminate them. It took me less than five minutes to do so. I've PM'd the OP since the slugs really bother him so much.

edit: Actually, if you change the resource name from Korabbian spice to anything else, the slugs should not appear.

I'm assuming those have been disabled in the startup settings.

Pretty much. The appearance for sand slugs to appear on planets with Korabbian spice is hard-coded. Change the spelling and they won't appear.

IIRC, there is a specific ruin event that will spawn them too.
