new scenario: "Railyard"

Post by Deepstuff3725 »

Greetings, Comrades.

Just finished up a new scenario and it's ready for action. It's based on the "Railyard" scenario from the computer game Conflict of Heroes. Germans get setup early, while the Russians enter gradually. Russians have more units, however the German units have an edge in firepower. Each side has a good variety of infantry, mortars, machine gun units, tanks, and artillery. Two 25 point objectives on each side.

Enjoy... Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Interesting looking design and thanks for sharing it.

Like the map with the elevated RR. Noticed there is 18 turns, 15 visibility and some off-board artillery to boot!

Reinforcements look like they trickle in over 7 turns and overall not a lot of units.

This would be a great beer & pretzels scenario over a network connection.

Cheers!

Jeff,

Hope you don't mind, saw this one play out yesterday. I had the computer play itself and the outcome was interesting.[:)]

I set it up to play with AF & VV off, all other optional rules on.

The Germans won with 112 victory points. Oddly all victory point locations changed hands from the start. After 18
turns the Germans controlled the initial Russian VP hexes and vice-a-versa for the Russians.

The German plan of attack was right down the center whereas the Russians came down their left flank using the
paved road on left. In fact this road was critical throughout the battle as both sides used it extensively to move.

The German losses included all PSW-221 strength points (SP's), 1-PzIIIH (SP's), 5-PzGren (SP's), 6-Schutzen (SP's),
2-81mm (SP's), 1-MG squad (SP's)and a 3-motorized leader. 21 SP's total in losses for 85 points.

The Russians losses included all BT-7 (SP's), 4-82mm (SP's), 10-Rifle (SP's), 14-Guards SMG (SP's), 5-MG (SP's),
2-Sniper (SP's), 2-Btln HQ (SP's) and a 3-foot leader. 44 SP's total in losses for 147 points.

There didn't appear to be any close assaults and the artillery usage was effective throughout the game.
The Germans got the major by taking the second Russian VP hex on the last turn, talk about going down to the wire!

A lot of times I will have the computer play itself to test out my designs. Basically looking for big flaws
on either playability or balance with balance being key.

This is a good scenario and thanks for posting it!

Thanks for trying out the scenario and the feedback, John.

Credit for the scenario design goes to Ewe, the creator of the Conflict of Heroes board games and pc games. Recently I played the Railyard scenario from that game online with a friend of mine and I really liked it, so I wanted to try to bring it to CS and share with the community. I really enjoy converting maps and scenarios from other war games into CS, so I'll be happy to make more, and post more, in the future.
