Please find a brief summary for the following for Pacific Theater of Operations. Elements of the Japanese Carrier Fleet have hit Rockhampton two days ago supporting the landing, this was estimated to be the main carrier fleet. The smaller Carrier Fleet hit the Idaho four days ago around Dutch Harbor, while she will require some extensive time in the ship yard she will return to combat this year.

Burma Theater
While the causalities were high at Pegu in the final battel, Japanese forces have not moved to besiege Rangoon in the last week but this is just a matter of time. However, we also suspect that supplies in this theater are becoming a major limitation on replacing his losses and recovering disabled and damaged forces.

Rangoon is anchored by the 17th Indian Division (battered but still in fighting shape) and the newly arrived 17th Australian Infantry Brigade. The 1st Burma Division has been withdrawn to Bassein to rest and recover --- from this location it can also support a withdraw when the time comes.

At this time with 37,000 supplies, Forts 3 (58%) and over 100 fighters we should be able to hold for some time, until Singapore falls and the flanks become insecure. An additional Australian Infantry Brigade is in route and once it arrives at Rangoon will move to Prome to secure the line of retreat.

The remaining forces from Burma have consolidated at Shwebo around the BFF Infantry Brigade and two Australian Armor Regiments. While supplies are tight, the forces can be supplied from the air if required. An additional Australian Infantry Brigade is in route as other forces. Forts are 2(2%).

At this time Australia is under attack, the initial thrust south has been stopped cold at Townsville, daily bombardment by allied forces continues to destroy small numbers of Japanese forces every day and drain badly needed supplies. However, the landing at Rockhampton two days ago presents both risks and opportunities.

Townsville
Forts 3(99%) and Supplies at 94,000+. At this time the forces will continue to bombard and pin the Japanese forces in place. If required, the forces can do any of the following -
(a) Simply march down the cost road towards Rockhampton/Brisbane.
(b) March to Charters Towers and the rail to Rockhampton or any other rail head.
(c) March to Charters Towers and the march along the interior road to any point required.

Charters Towers
Forts 3(0%) and Supplies at 73,000+. The one Australian Infantry Brigade, one Base Squadron and three Motor Regiments will hold until relieved.

Rockhampton
At this point is this is the key to holding the northern area. Forts are at 2(50%) and Supplies at 1,000+. The one Australian Infantry Brigade, one Base Squadron, one Motor Regiment and the II Corps HQ will hold until relieved.

The Japanese executed their landing with only one Base Squadron and one Motor Regiment in place, however the Australian Infantry Brigade was in route and arrived one the second day of the landing and went into battle right off of the trains. The II Corps HQ was diverted as well. Additional forces are in route.

Forces from Charters Towers can rail into the battle if required so the main force at Townsville can be redeployed as required.

Air War
With the Arrival of three USA Fighter ACU’s and one Marine Fighter ACU, Japanese aircraft have left the field after several lopsided engagements. The Australian Fighter Forces and undergoing a massive training push but at this time should only be committed as a desperate measure.

Notes

Additional forces are on trains and are in route to hold the area or react as needed to other landings. Two USA Infantry Divisions are on ships in route along with other forces but these will be in country for another thirty to forty-five days.

The Race to Rockhampton

The race is on but I suspect that Lam0ttePicquet may have misread the situation. The 7th Australian Brigade that arrived the day after his landing is not part of the strategic reserve at all --- it was already in route. After studding the map before his landings were sited Allied High Command noted that Rockhampton and Maryborough have critical double rail lines so one infantry brigade was sent to each. At this point there are several infantry brigades in reserve and in strategic mode. We have however dispatched all of the Infantry Battalions and Companies from the reserve along with the Artillery and some of the forces are still in route.
While he has done some limited short bombardment with BB’s, CA’s and DD’s it is not enough even with the additional two SNLF units that have arrived over the last couple of days.

At this time the Allied forces in Australia are just reporting the last Japanese forces evacuated in the night from the beaches of Rockhampton. The forces are presumed to be withdrawing to the South Pacific to resume offensive operations. Allied High Command is going to rearrange the defenses south of Brisbane in case of landing further south.

Not that he has taken the bait on. He knows that I have 75 P-39's and 48 Australian Fighters from an air ambush over Townsville and he has been carful to stay at 14 hexes from shore. He has not seen the A-24's but I assume he expects there are there.

Please find a brief summary for the following for Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. After having command for several weeks I can feel confidant at this time we can hold the Japanese forces to the Northeaster portion of Australia.

Townsville
At this time our forces have begun daily bombardment of the Japanese forces. I have taken personnel command of the battle ( SWPAC HQ Command, AUS II Corps, New Guinea Army). The goal is to pin as many forces in place as possible using the Australian forces and the Americal Division.

The rail line is currently open with two lines active back to the rest of Australia.

Charter Towers
Australian forces pushed a reconnaissance in force out of the city limits several weeks ago. At this time three US Army Fighter units along with one Marine Fighter unit have gained complete control of the air form these air bases.

Hughenden
Australian forces pushed a reconnaissance in force out of the city limits several weeks ago. At this time limited Australian forces have moved one hex north to act as buffer to secure the second rail line to Townsville.

Future Operations
Once Operation Wheeljack goes into action in the South Pacific one US Infantry Division will reinforce Townsville while one US Infantry Division plus the 18th Infantry Division will move to Hughenden and advance along the road network to Carins. All available Australian armored forces will join in this drive.

Can you confirm that with the loss of Clark Field the situation in the is now hopeless in the Philippines?
