RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
I just think Truks combination of 3x terrain and enormous numbers of CD guns a bad idea to take unless it is almost undefended otherwise. The base is not stategically that important for the Allies given how you can just go around it. The historical island hopping campaign waa right in bypassing Truk.

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
And then suddenly Mundy is back... He rushed in a bit there, or he was just outside of search range.. I do lose a few destroyers. The next turn my LBA strikes at his carriers who wander in range of the Marianas for the first time.. It is not pretty for me. Coordination is not great 200 aircraft are lost for 30 allied fighters... Most of my losses are bombers..

Good news for me as Mundy pushes onward with his carrier air right into massive CAP I put up..... His air is punished...

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Looks like his bombardment was successful but his ships can't take the abuse for long. Many CAs and CLs took too many hits 13 on average and all left on fire. Landing low prep new Divisions is a recipe for disaster in the face of well supplied and dug in defense and already over stacked..

I can't wait to see the results of the next Allied assault at Truk. I've experienced the affects of heavily over stacking a hex in China. I may be wrong, but I'm predicting an Allied disaster when he assaults.

That was a nasty bombardment, but man, another 20,000 men is crazy. He needs to be bombing, bombarding, or really just ignoring truk entirely rather than doubling down.

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
What you see in the ground combat part is Japanese troops bombarding the landing troops. In general that is a terrible idea but you can't stop it from happening - it is a game mechanic.
This turn the allies bombarded with the Japanese counter firing (counter battery).. The losses are light with around a dozen destroyed on the allied side, a few on the Japanese.. That is fine with me..
Mundy keeps pushing his air forward near the Marianas.. After my terrible attempt at attacking on day 1 (I should have waited for him to bleed his air...) he attacks - two times it seemed to be intentional, today was a long range port attack which seemed to be a mistake. I've lost around 230 aircraft, the majority bombers and a few old xAKLs and an ancient destroyer. Mundy takes it on the chin with over 550 aircraft destroyed. His carrier TF is withdrawing east / south east away from the action...

Might be a good time for the KB to make an appearance now his deathstar has to withdraw to restock it's air groups.

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
And that is exactly what I did.. Sadly I could only concentrate around 340 aircraft and Mundy moved a small carrier group to the North West of Truk so it ended up being a draw with heavy losses to air on both sides... And I hate allied AA... Very hard to make hits against carriers...
He was probably moving to cover a large amphib force landing two more divisions (...) at Truk... Looks like all or nothing? Lets see if throwing even more bodies onto the beach helps.. If he was a real life president he wouldn't have been popular in the next elections....

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
In raw numbers you lost 11% to his 3% but his AV was reduced by almost 90% when all the factors were calculated.. However, can he sustain that effort, as your troops have nowhere to go and will fight to the death to maintain the honor of the Empire.

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
A large allied surface force then catches the retreating Japanese force, dishing out and taking damage.... Five Japanese destroyers, an ancient light cruiser and most probably Aoba are lost for two perhaps three escort carriers, two old light allied cruisers and a couple of allied destroyers....
Truk is a late war guadalcanal - war of attrition...
No allied ground attack this turn...

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Just shows you what you can do with a Leyte Gulf lite Japanese surface TF with good leadership against a CVE TF with a normal escort. Nibbling away at his forces here will me facing less later. However he gets 100+ CVEs, 90ish to go.

Actually, I've sunk 40+ CVEs.... Still, he gets so many of those....

The heavily damaged Aoba takes a submarine torpedo and sinks... Pretty heavy losses. I am really curious what his squad pool looks like compared to the state of his front line divisions....

What is the rationale for thinking a shock attack would be effective in this situation? [&:] He was actually making progress -- slowly -- but that attack gained him nothing but coffins.
