Aircraft Present Indicator

Post by Meiktila »

After expending a fair deal of ordinance on the below pictured airfield none of the aircraft present icons have disappeared.

Does this mean that the standing aircraft were not destroyed? Even on the open tarmac spaces? Or is it possible that my recon just can't inform me?

[the scenario is NF13.1 Shoulder to Shoulder, for those interested]

Have you attempted to do some BDA? Do your recon forces have eyes on these targets?

Doesn't that little symbol indicate that the platform is capable of carrying aircraft, not that it has aircraft?

nope, the symbol only appears when ac's are on them (yours or friendly side) or are spotted (enemy side)

meiktila: as maromak pointed out, make sure that your recon units hav eyes on the platforms, otherwise you will not know if the ac's are destroyed.

you could also look for yourself in editor mode.

ok - thanks - so it is a recon/intel thing, not that the ac are still there (necessarily).

Correct, you'll need to run a recon asset past to confirm. You can make some assumptions and probably be accurate and it depends what ordinance you were using. If a high fragmentation such as a CBU then there is a good chance any damage will indicate a kill to the AC.

you could also take a look at the losses and expenditure page right before weapons release, then check it again after the ordinance detonates to get an idea of what was destroyed.

I encountered this as well; I got around it by dropping the contact and then doing another recce overflight. Otherwise even if no a/c is spotted the symbol remains. I don't think it's a bug (as it indicates that an aircraft was seen; not that an aircraft is there right now) but it could be confusing.

If you select any of those icons..... It will tel you when the last observation was...... I have found they update after the next observable over flight.....

You are right. Did a quick testrun, the recon unit updates the status of the platform (Fire/damage) but the symbol remains even if the AC is destroyed.

I´ll do a little research if this is WAD. Otherwise i am gonna report it.

Magi: in my test it said that last contact was XX minutes ago, but it wont update even the recon unit has eyes on the platform.

Same result for me there; dropping contact was the only way to get rid of the symbol.

Edit: oops didn't see your other post

thanks guys, this was driving me nuts but I can also confirm that the only way is to drop the contact. I didn't even think of it as a contact!
