You've hit on a good principle, Rustysi.

If we were to 'grade' current computer technology for a given point in time from 1 - 10, there is a 'sweet spot' in the 8-9 range. That is, you're benefiting from most of the advances in technology, but are saving the often huge price differential required to get to that '10' system - what is sometimes referred to as 'bleeding edge'.

You also used an effective method to find the 8 or 9 even when you may not understand all the technical details - find the 'best' model and look at the models one or two steps below it. This works for individual components as well as entire systems.

By sticking to the 8-9 range, you are avoiding the '7' systems which are merely adequate and those below which are varying degrees of inadequate. Buying those systems can save some money immediately, but then you have to buy them every other year or suffer through a degraded user experience. A well maintained 8-9 system can last for years with a good user experience.

Yup, its the way I built all my desktops as well. Used to drive some of my technology hungry friends crazy too. These guys were always into those performance disks that were in various PC mags. To me they didn't mean a thing and when I'd get rates equivalent to, or exceeding theirs they'd go nuts. Of course they'd have the latest and greatest from this or that manufacturer, and were all overclocked to the wall. Something else I never felt a need for (overclocking). My one and only driving force when building a machine... Will it run what I want, and last a bit into the future.

Dunno if you still care or not, but I play WItPAE on an HP Spectre x360 2in1, i7-6500U with 8GM RAM and 256GB SSD. I am driving a 4k display off the mini DisplayPort. It seems to play really well up to 3000 x 1500, then starts to give me display bugs when scrolling if I increase size in either direction. I just bought the 4k display (3840x2160) so I am still testing it and playing with parameters. So far, running it with the following params with no issues:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -skipVideo -wd –cpu2 –multiaudio -pxf3000 -pyf1500 -altFont -dd_sw

Scrolls fast etc. I'm using an external mouse and keyboard to play, not using touch or active stylus. I've tried playing a bit with touch - it is too inexact and the interface is too unforgiving to do that. Clicking a few pixels off does bad things to your order entry sometimes. I haven't tried much with the stylus yet. Hope this helps.

The Razer Blade laptop is very light for maximum ease of transport and decent enough when it comes to gaming. However, it is a bit pricey and can have some technical malfunctions, particular relating to the screen (lots of flickering at times) and mousepad.

All-in-all I really like it. I had previously bought a heavy-duty gaming laptop and found it to be way too cumbersome. However, due to the technical issues I'm having, I'm sending mine back under warranty to get the issues fixed or a replacement.

Please also note that any Macbook retina can run the Witp on Parallels easy or using the Wine even better. ( That's what I am currently doing )
