Bring back "The Old Guard" request.

Post by AW1Steve »

Just for the heck of it , let's list some of the veteran players that we've had disappear in recent years. Maybe if we mention their names 3 times , they'll reappear. I'd like to start with the 1st player to help me out on this forum. Terminus, Terminus, where art thou Terminus? [:(] [:(][:)]

Well I would like to say Chickenboy, Chickenboy, Chickenboy. He may have come from Minsoda, he may not have been the sharpest tool in the box, and he may have had personal body odour issues, but despite all that, I miss the dude.

I'll see if I can catch him on facebook and tell him of your summoning's.[:)]

Requirements for Old Guard candidates:
under 35 years of age at entry
at least 10 years' service
at least three campaigns (some had as many as 12 campaigns)
had to literally face enemy fire at the front and survive
had to be over 6 ft. Shorter Candidates went to the Chasseurs de la Garde

Well that's what Wiki says anyway [;)]

I wouldn't say "at war". I'd say we had a rather intense disagreement. We both went on sabbatical at the same time, but after 3 months I slowly came back. He hasn't yet. But as he's not "unfriended me" (who thinks up these terms anyway? Obviously a failed English major or a fan of Orwell's "new speak".[X(]) So I've kept following his posts. He's been pretty darn busy with family stuff, but lets see if he'll respond to a message.

Can you tell him I really miss him... after all, it was only when conversing with Chickenboy that I ever felt intellectually superior to anyone.

Going bald also qualifies.
If your ears noticeably perk up when a Viagra commercial comes on, that counts.
If you get a grandchild to set up your computer system, you achieve brevet rank in the Old Guard.
If you can remember something that happened thirty years ago as though it was yesterday, but can't remember what you had for breakfast yesterday, you may achieve Feldmarchal's rank in the Old Guard.
If you're a guy but buy products from Hanes, you might be Old Guard.

Pretty stiff requirements.
Re: the "face the enemy" one - I had to stare down the barrel of an AK-47 held by an Egyptian soldier who probably had a grade 2 education. I was with the UNEF 2 mission and we were returning from Israel to HQ at Ismailia on the Suez Canal. It was the middle of the night and we were hurrying to cross the pontoon bridge across the canal before it was dismantled to allow ship traffic. Getting stopped at a checkpoint on the Egyptian side of the buffer zone was not unusual, but the number of soldiers pointing automatic weapons at our UN car was! Fortunately the young lieutenant in charge was educated and spoke enough English to get by. He spent a long time talking to the guy named "David" in our car and looked very closely at our diplomatic passports. He allowed us through though, and we found out a couple of days later that Israeli spies had been using fake Canadian Passports and a UN-painted vehicle to get into Egypt! Those checkpoint guards were no doubt on hair trigger. So, does that qualify as "facing the enemy" (enemy = distrust, fear and maybe hatred)?

Ugh. Again with that pidgin Brit-speak of yours. Remember, us Texans don't have body odour issues. We have body odor issues. Everything's big in Texas.

Yikes, we mentioned Nemo three times (in another thread) and Andre (Poultry Lab) prestos into our presence!

Coincidence? I think not!

On a more serious note, it's a propitious day when Andre returns after a nine-month (or so) sabbatical. Welcome back, Chickenboy! Really glad to see you.

Now I'll try a few more:

1. Treespider, Treespider, Treespider
2. Greyjoy, Greyjoy, Greyjoy,
3. Rader, Rader, Rader
4. Panzerjager Hortlund, Panzerjager Hortlund, Panzerjager Hortlund
5. Q-Ball, Q-Ball, Q-Ball
6. Chez-da-jez, Ches-da-jez, Ches-da-jez
7. Grotius, Grotius, Grotius
8. Moses, Moses, Moses,
9. Raverdave, Raverdave, Raverdave
10. JWE, JWE, JWE

There, I've done my part.

We summon thee.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls....
