Germany rebases fighter from southern France to Spain.
If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.

Back to Allies.
Next impulse we take it. Or impulse after that. Or next turn = next year...

No declarations of war.
Combined: CW
Pass: USSR, USA, France, China
HMS Furious and HMS Glorious launch their Swordfish bombers for an attack on the Italian port La Spezia. The Nimrods are on standby if the bombers call for assistance.
Will Italy intercept with their fighters?

On behalf of AllenK I say yes to intercept. I am very confident that this fighter is staying there only for this mission [:)]

For the surprise roll Axis roll a 8 while Allies roll a 4. CW use the surprise points to reduce the effectiveness of the Italian fighter.

The Italian AA gunners were taken by surprise. They had been guaranteed fighter protection so no need for any AA practice.
Worst die, out of 5, used for AA fire. Dies rolled: 1, 8, 7, 2, 1

And the Italian sea lift suffers serious damage.
Question 1: Should the roll '3' result in a bottomed or sunk transporter?
Question 2: What target suffers the 'D' result?

Question 1: This is going to depend on whether the defence factor should be rounded before the comparison to the die roll. The criteria is the die roll must be less than or equal to half the defence factor for the X result. Half of 5 is 2.5 so a 3 would be more than half but if the defence factor is rounded to 3, the X stands.
Question 2: D to the Littorio.
Question 2: D to the Littorio.

Then this might clarify question 1. It says rounding before.
2.6 Fractions
....
Round off a number immediately before:
• calculating an odds ratio; or
• looking the number up in a table; or
• comparing it to a dice roll or to a fixed value; or
• spending oil (see 13.5.1) or build points.
