running JTCS in OSX

Post by zoikkis »

I managed to get this working with OSX Mavericks by installing thru PlayOnMac(which uses Wine). Wine Engine used is 1.7.26. From Wine configuration-->Applications you should choose Windows 8 instead of Windows XP so that the saving works, otherwise might get into problems with file permissions. I also installed DX9 and msvcr2008 libraries, not sure if needed. After installation updated to 2.02.

Tried all three games. Scenario play seems to work fine, tried couple scenarios with multiple turns. No crashes or graphics/sound anomalies so far, runs with full speed. Scenario editor and OOB editor works. Map editor shows all the menus but doesn't show graphics tiles so unusable.

All the above applies to Campaign Series: Middle East too.

Thanks zoikkis! I tried this at one stage with WINE, install seemed to function but the map tiles did not show up, and the Save did not work. That was with the "stable" 1.6.something version though. And I had not specified any W8 (nor XP) compatibility for that matter.

This is great news, zoikkis! Like Crossroads, I found trying to use Wine too problematic.

Have you tried JSGME on the installed games in PlayOnMac?

Yes, JSGME works with both JTCS and CS:ME. I'm using black info box mod and panzer interfaces for JTCS EF/WF, all working perfectly. Also black info box and Arvold Scenarios for CS:ME work normally.

It is nice how PlayOnMac after installation associates all .exe files with it so that you can just navigate to the installation directory and double-click JSGME just like with PC.
