Is it possible to change the shape for the Designate area tool?

I'd like to be able to change the shape of the designate area tool to a hexagon or ellipse so the tool drops more reference points.
Is that possible?

No. But you can put this it in the feature request thread if you like.

As i recall there is a LUA code to make a circle with reference points...

EDIT: or you can add a few single reference points after another. Thats how i do it

Frank, by manual placement of any number of the reference points you can create shapes that you want.

Thank you both. I understand about adding manually, I am adding them that way now when I want something more complex. The reason I asked about other shapes is because I have been starting with the box and then adding more points to make a more complex route but it messes with the numbering so I end up having to move everything around more than I would if I started with either a more complex shape or a grater number of points along each side of the box.

From my old CAD days... Anything more complex is going to require you to draw points, isn't it? At that point, wouldn't you just put the points down anyway.

I use the hotkey for placing points (Insert? Or Ctrl+Insert?). That way, you can place them in order and it saves a fair bit of time over right-clicking each time.

I'd quite like a shape tool (at least a 'circle of X diameter), but I think it's already been mentioned in the requests thread.
