Today I finally made the trip to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. It's a great collection of planes (and tanks/arty). A few things I hadn't seen before and lots of what I expected to see; spits and hurries!
The best parts are the flying birds hangar and the restorations. Really amazing stuff and lots of engines open being worked on.
Here are some of the pics from the day.

Two P-40s and a P-36 in the same hangar!
The chrome one is a C and couldn't see what version the one in the rear is.

This thing is a Salamander. I hadn't seen one, but remember some pics. Supposed to be a "people's fighter" for relatively untrained pilots in the late war, it actually turned out to be a bear to handle. Not surprising looking at the stubby wings and odd engine placement. Really a small plane though, and it was apparently mostly wood construction. It said it went from designs to production in 90 days!

Another rare bird. This is an He 111 in mid-recontrction. Too bad it was piled in behind a few other planes

I made a model (plastic) of this one when I was a kid and mounted the wings backwards! [8|][:(]

Thanks TS for your photos. Tons of birds there. You convinced me I need to go there soon.
