OTS Update 1Oct16

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

OTS Update 1Oct16

Post by CapnDarwin »

Hey Folks,

Just a few words on where we are with a couple of things.

1). The update is back in our hands this weekend to check out and we are looking into one issue with the West German data file not loading in ScenEdit when you load a West German based scenario. Something with the name and the file tagging we do. It does not stop game play and you can build scenarios with the West Germans, but it shows the OTS file as "Modified" and not "OTS Owned". We are looking at it for a quick fix because we don't want to spin another installer cycle with the product team behind and loaded already.

2). Web Site from hell. Not even going to rant. Not enough ram on these servers. Site is still down. Still no good answers other than it should be working Monday. I'll remind everyone we have heard that answer 2-3 times now without luck. Either way we are looking to go to an new host and we will be pretty blunt about the past month and the mess Blue Host has made. If you are looking at them for a site, look elsewhere.[:-] There could be a major delay getting it back up if we have to start from scratch. Plus the possible added benefit of losing all uploaded content.

With both of these we will keep you all posted as we know things. Enjoy your weekend! [8D]

Bluehost has had a less-than-stellar rep for a very long time. Take a look at their blog sometime; high on smarm, very low on relevant content.

Dreamhost has been good for me, not that I have ever put much of a load on them.

You get what you pay for in web hosting... when you are damned lucky.

Best guess right now is the Fall/Winter of next year. That can change quickly with our small team and real life impacts. Of which, we have a handful. We will do our best to keep everyone in the loop as we move forward with development work on the Southern Storm game engine. [8D]

I think we have a handle on the West German ScenEdit issue. Verify tonight and get files back to Matrix.

Website is toast. We are not happy to say the least. We are looking into other options and right now a simple info site may be the way we go for a while. At some point, we do want to get back to having a file hosting capability. We definitely apologize to those looking for files. This was not what we wanted to have happen.

More information will flow as we get it.

Sorry about the website, Jim. The frustrat-o-meter has to be pegged and probably has been for a while.

Take care and keep up the good work.

Thanks Don. The team is not happy with the site host and the complete lack of support, but we will get something going in the near future.

Wow Cap'n, your site is still down? I suppose they don't realize that OTS has customers that could very well become their customers. Hopefully you have enough of the content from your site to be able to rebuild it quickly once you find a new host.

Good luck!

OldSarge, that's half the fun. The backup "feature" never worked right and even though it was reported by Rob a number of times, we were told it was working fine. The site is gone at this point. We will probably raise one last round of hell with them and try to get our site data from them, but I'm not getting any real smooth vibe they have much of a clue on what they are doing with code or hardware. [:(]

Wow. Sorry about the hosting problems. How much data is involved? Players do not care about a glitzy site just one easy to navigate with fast d/l. Pretty sure that will work itself out fairly quickly. All the best moving forward.
