Lucky skippers
I noticed that skippers never die unless his ships sinks. There has to be some occasion skipper dies or gets wounded so replaced by second in command when his ship gets damaged by enemy TF, subs or airplanes. It also applies to TF commanders.

Why he has to die when his ship anchored or docked? So, it's basically like this.
His ship got torpedoed by enemy sub and heavily damaged. He returned to home port and anchored his ship. Two days later while he was drinking beer at the officers club, he got urgent phone call said that he ship was sinking. So, he hurried back to his ship and went down with his ship.

I agree that if a ship makes it to port, then sinks, the TF commander or captain should not suffer death unless he was wounded during the attack and finally died in port - which is my take on it. Some captains insisted on being the last off the ship and ended up going down with it but that would only pertain to sinkings outside the harbor.

But the captain is always supposed to go down with the ship!

Thats just how it's done.....which is why promoted myself to Admiral........that way the other guy gets to go down with the ship whereas i only have to press CNTRL-ALT-DELETE

So you live to play another day! On a serious note, some Brit captains chose to go down with their ships even though they could have saved themselves which goes to show how strong the naval tradition was in the British Navy.

They were the good old days before navy captains discovered blaming their superiors for their ships being sunk.

Although to be honest, I'd rather face the board of enquiry than drown!
