Moved British Bomber to Isle of Lewis and now can't get him off it

Post by jpinard »

I moved the British Bomber, Bomber Command, to the Isle of Lewis to give me a more flexible position to scout for German subs. But now, just like the bomber you receive in Iceland, he's stuck there. You cannot right click and choose "operate" to move, nor can you just move them. Iceland because a manual move is too far, Isle of Lewis, not sure. If a savegame is needed here it is (note still on v1.10 non-hotfixed as I'm having too much fun exacting revenge on Germans LOL).

Isle of Lewis has zero supply, and planes can't fly with zero supply !

Iceland ? Not sure [:(]

The Icelandic Bomber is from what I remember restricted to Iceland only, i.e. it will not be able to Operate out of there and this is by design in order to help maintain overall balance throughout the map.

For Bomber Command, landing on the Isle of Lewis would under the current settings get you stuck there as there is zero supply on that island so likely your AP has been reduced to the point that you are not able to reach the mainland for a return flight.

Would be nice to have a way to rescue stranded units.
Maybe supply drops by air or naval units. Or naval HQ units which share supply to units in the very next hexes around them.

Hmmm. . . one or two supply vessels or auxiliary cruisers would be also rather interesting for submarines with low supply. [;)]

I totally understand Iceland bomber scenario and figured that was the reason (good balance). Now the other islands present a sticky situation as only the most educated gamers will understand why they can't move them, and many will simply forget moving a unit to an island will get it stuck there. This could be quite an expensive loss - to have a unit stranded. Hmmm wait a second. If I move an HQ unit there, would that offer enough supply to allow the plane to fly off?

If not I have an idea that might be workable and hopefully not an insane amount of work. Have a hex on islands where this can happen contain a "supply drop". The icon could be two barrels to signify gas/oil similar to the icons that show manufacturing on certain report screens. Y when you right click to add supply (for a cost of like 30 MPP) that offers the minimum supply necessary to fly off of it. You pay to re-supply the supply drop just like you pay to add anti-aircraft upgrade to a city. This would model sending a unit to drop off supplies, and thus it would not be in a constant state of unreasonable supply. Barrels with just an outline are empty, barrels filled in with black shading have been filled.

Or... just have a special note note saying "If you send aircraft or units to barren islands, they may get stuck there forever due to supply constraints".

I've taken up this suggestion and added it to the Manual, thanks.
