Assault and readiness

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Assault and readiness

Post by markcab »

Do assault orders reduce readiness? Like let's say I want to travel 7km to assault an objective. SHould I assault the whole time or deliberate up to a point then assault?

Yes, moving reduces readiness, but not sure about the delta between deliberate and assault. I'll see if I can get an answer in tonight's Dev call.

Could we perhaps revive this issue? I'm still curious, for one.

We will discuss this Monday evening, if not sooner.

Sorry for the delay in response. We've been pretty busy, not a worthy excuse, just a fact.

We should respond back to this within the next 3 days.

Good Hunting.

Here is the response, I just got from Rob, concerning all things readiness:

"OK, there are many determinants to readiness but during movement loss of readiness is a function of the cover rating of each hex traversed and
whether the unit is a trained recon unit or not.It does not matter whether it is assault, deliberate or hasty move orders.

The loss of readiness suffered by a ground unit per hex of movement is equal to the cover rating divided by 40 (fractions are kept). Non-recon
ground units suffer twice that. So if a recon unit enters a hex with 80% cover then it suffers a 2 point reduction in readiness (say from 55.1%
to 53.1%) and any other ground unit would suffer a 4 point reduction.

There are a host of other readiness modifiers but these are the movement ones. Bottom line is that the kind of movement order does not matter."

Hope this helps.

Again, we apologize for the delay in responding. With what we were doing for Origins and continuing work on the patch this one just slipped by us.

If you post a question to us and we don't respond within a reasonable amount of time please repost the question. We pride ourselves in our relationship with you.

Good Hunting.

Can you help with this part of the OP's original question?
Like let's say I want to travel 7km to assault an objective. SHould I assault the whole time or deliberate up to a point then assault?

Unless the timing is in your favor, right now you are better off with the assault order so you don't get an additional delay with an orders change. Now if you are far from an objective area, have clear road, and time to issue a change, then a deliberate move or even hasty move may be the way to go to close distance.
