CV groups DO change size at predetermined stages in the campaign. For the Japanese the Shokaku class start out at 1/3 of each type of plane. Later on it changes to 2/5, 2/5,1/5. I haven’t mapped all of the other changes yet.

Yes but I don't have a clue which date in the campaign it is....better to be safe than sorry. Therefore I check everything I can get my hands on

Did you add a 2nd VF Group to Yorktown? If so, that would drop each VF to 24 Max.

I have had this happen before.

The instance where it happened to me was when a CV in the TF got damaged and limited flight ops.

It diverted fragments onto the Yorktown, and the max for VF-42 was limited until I removed the fragments.

I have had numerous wacky things happening with air squads.

Often with remnants of air groups from damaged carriers and also when messing with the default air group settings on carriers, ie swapping groups in and out.

I've had one Wildcat squadron of 24 aircraft permanently stuck with 9 pilots in Noumea, even over a period of months. Other pilot depleted groups have no problems finding piolots but not that one.

Matrix, IMHO you really need to tidy UV before finishing WITP.
I pity the poor programmers trying to debug this stuff in WITP with all the added complexity.

As of the most recent turn this sqd is back to being a 36 plane unit - go figure. The Yorktown was not damaged or the group split, but I did move it off the CV at one point.

Did you have another group on the carrier? If you load another group, or have fragments from another carrier get stationed on board, it can temporarily drop the maximum aircraft allowed.

Sorry, I am a bit slow in rechecking this thread - no I didn't have fragments of other sqds on the carrier. I did move sqds off to the adjacent base but then moved them back on.
