Anybody still playing FOF?

I'm thinking of buying FOF. I have been looking at brother against brother and civil war 2 as well and FOF appears to be closer to civil war generals 2, the old classic.
I'll be running it on windows 10, I see on another thread that somebody said it was ok on windows 10. Is that a full screen resolution (widescreen capability) or will there be black strips down the sides on a 4:3 ratio?
I like the look of this game, civil war 2 (ageod) seems too complex for me. Any help/opinions greatly appreciated as limited budget, seems expensive for a 8 year old game. Cheers then.

I haven't played in a year or so. However, I do know that it does not support HD screen resolutions, you will get black bars. I would wait for a sale (like the 30% off easter sale they just had) before buying.

Yes, I still play it a lot. CWII is too complex for me. FOF has a number of things to be aware of. For example ... AI is very predictable: turtles Richmond, very aggressive in the west, tactical battles always tries to maneuver for a north to south attack, AI does poor job of handling economics. BUT game is not all bad. I like playing as North. I enjoy the early and mid-game. Once AI starts to turtle Richmond I restart. I like controlling game settings. Army organization is easy. Econ is easy to understand but hard to master at advanced levels. I've only played by e-mail a couple of times. I've found PBEM has a Southern bias. Hope that helps.

Brother against Brother is an updated version of the tactical system only. Has a number of scenarios from early in the war. It does not have a strategic layer like FoF does.

Thanks mate. I'd be interested to know any thoughts on what is a decent AAW game. I used to play civil war generals 2, that gripped me for a bit but it won't work on windows 10 and I have tried using that dosbox thing but I can't get my head round all that stuff. It's so frustrating as I'm really interested in the AAW and read loads of books and stuff but getting a good turn based strategy PC game for it appears to not exist. It's all WW2, ancient and sci-fi geared games. The new civil war 2 looks cool but I'm not sure about the AGEOD system. Regards to all.

I'd urge you to reconsider FoF, Cp. The layered system to which bobarossa refers gives you an ACW game experience that's not available anywhere else. On the strategic level you'll be tasked with making long-term construction, armament, and unit-building decisions that will profoundly influence the "shape" of the war you'll fight, while at the tactical level you'll pay the price for those decisions but find opportunities to improve your strategic situation through skillful battlefield performance. It's like CW2 with strategic depth and a better linkage between successive battles.
