Hiding enemy units' stats

Post by Gribeauval »

If the enemy statistics were hidden ( type of infantry : conscript, 1st line, ... state of the unit : tired, broken weapon, ....), could the game be still playable by using the same ASL tactics ?

Is the plan to keep the FOW as it is, to keep the game close to ASL ? or to increase the FOW (with the risk of getting something different from ASL) ?

Regards.

Very good question, in one hand the asl men who want more statistics in the other hand the squad gamers who want more fog of war. I think an option with or without should be the solution. [&o]

Yes a very good question!!

In my experience the more fog of war plays into a game the tactics one uses must change dramatically.

I see that a bit in Campaign Series where you really don't know except by silhouette what your shooting at. The
information on the target is obscured like moral, action points, strength if not in open terrain. This unknown forces you
to play a little different than if you were playing on a board game. ASL tried to inject fog of war by hidden units and "?"
where you were not quite sure what was there. With TotH the computer can easily control that aspect. Fog of war might push
Tigers on the Hunt (TotH) further away from ASL but then again, its not really true ASL is it?

Good question Gribeauval! Good question indeed!

Peter is working on a way to make some statistic visible but as an option only. This would fit both sides [:)]

personally I wouldn't touch it .
I think the FOW works very well .
Basic stats are all that are needed ,
Should I have a query about the stats , the forums are fantastic , how many have answered my questions ?
One of the greatest things about this game ?
All I have to do is turn on the comp . load a scenario , and have a great time playing :)
Unsure how many scenarios I`ve finished in Toth in a short time , but I could count the amount of ASL
scenarios I finished on 2 hands .
Keep up the great work Peter ,
Personal opinion , you have hit it on the head .

No worries, I don't plan to do any changes in this area. FOW as it works now will stay the way it is.

I'm currently working a feature that will allow a user selected unit(s) to see what targets in LOS are available to hit and with what percentage of success - this feature will only be available at EASY or NORMAL difficulty only. I don't have an ETA on this yet. This is what Jörgen had in mind when he replied above. And yes, it will be available to both sides plying HOT SEAT game
